If you've got 2 mins & nothing better to do, watch this vid and tell me is this fair / have I got a hope in hell of winning an appeal (Have already had it rejected once, so it's round 2)

I am at Herne Hill, in the silver car, double parked basically waiting for a guy a couple of cars down to pull out of his space (he has gestured to me to say he's just loading his boot and then he'll be off). I'm desperate for his space because there are no others and I've got a heavy cage to carry into the vets right beside that row of cars and a toddler in the back. I'm there, sat in the car, for no longer than 2 minutes while the guy (who you can see moving across the page wheeling something)loads up and pulls off. I then move into his space. Job done.

A week later I get a ticket and a ?65 fine which goes up to ?130 tomorrow. I've appealed once. Rejected. Lambeth say I was causing an obstruction to vehicles and a possible obstruction to emergency vehicles (well no I'm not as you can clearly see cars passing me and it also happens to be a dead end so hardly going to have emergency vehicles trying to speed through) Seconds after the video stops I pull into the empty space but of course they don't show that bit.

What's the verdict.

Pay ?65 or appeal again?

Guilty before proven innocent is the councils way of extorting revenue for it's coffers, These enforcement cameras are nothing more than cash generators and do little to ease traffic flow or address parking issues, Fight it all the way!!

Had there been a parking warden then it would have been down to his discretion, maybe he/she would have advised you going around the block?

Not good advice because unfortunately she won't win. Whether you agree with the rules or not they were broken in this instance, so to fight it would be futile and more expensive than just paying up.

    • I'm glad you are making good use of your car, but bemused how you are saving on petrol by only half filling every 3-4 weeks? Unless this prevents you using the car as often as you would like, surely you would use just the same amount of petrol, and spend the same amount of money, if you filled it up completely every 6 - 8 weeks? Have I missed something here?

    • Would Leon install a new double oven? Our eye level double oven was installed when we had our kitchen installed around 20 years ago and will need to be replaced with similar. I think we had 2 people to install it then - so does Leon work alone?
    • My car was registered in 2004. Automatic, ULEZ compatible.  Used to use it daily for work until 2016 when retired. Still used 3-5 days weekly after that as was doing voluntary work. My mobility has gradually declined and  it is painful to walk.. Family live in Kent, Essex and Sussex - so need car to visit them. My car battery is 2 years old - when had to call out RAC to assist at home as it was dead, they found it was the original battery installed in 2004!! My car is essential - shopping each week, being able to go to garden centres, or DIY stores, taking the cat to the vet and  other social activities. I now only half fill with petrol every 3- 4 weeks, so save that way. I am careful  with my finances and would be lost without the car. It is regularly maintained (Turners).
