Bony Fido
When I got home from work yesterday, I found that some one has filled to the brim with earth the 3 garden waste wheelie bins belonging to our flats, and left them on the pavement outside (one has been left on its side - half on/off the road.) These bins are the same size as a large dustbin - anyone know what capacity? - and they are now impossible to move. I have reported this to Southwark Council via the fly-tipping section on their website today. Siduhe
Not earth, but several people in our street had bins (green and brown) filled to the brim with building waste and rubble a while back. It looked very much like a builders van had flytipped waste from a residential construction site. louisiana
I've had a neighbour do this to my bin (filled his bin with it, then around 2/3 of mine). Some neighbour. Even more annoying, sometimes the bin men wont take it.My neighbours occasionally put big boxes of paper etc (non-recyclers - grrr;-)) and the bin men sometimes take them out and leave them by the curb, but then the recycling guys will only take what's in the bag, meaning I have to glove up (boxes have been either in the wheelie bin or out in the rain for a week) and rummage thru the boxes, put the paper in my recycling bag, bin the non recyclables and squash the box - I'm sure the neighbours think I'm some sort of rubbish-rummaging stalker-loon!Both these types of fly-tipping are just a pain in the arse now, but what if we start getting charged for our rubbish by weight, or whatever was being proposed?(edit for typos) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3132-garden-waste-bins-anyone-else-had-theirs-filled-with-earth/#findComment-97926 Share on other sites
ClareC
on the subject of recycling...... the green bin isnt for card but if you put card with the paper bag the bin men wont take it........ are we supposed to save our card up and take it to Saninsbury's or am I missing something? Cassius
We put cardboard in our newspaper bag and it gets taken - I think they huff and puff a bit about it, but they do take it. Ant
I've never had a problem putting cardboard in my bag....hmm, tho sometimes if it's a really big bit that sticks out of the bag they won't take it. But then if I rip it up and put it in the bag so it fits inside then they will.Where's the logic in that? Pickle
We must be lucky... I often leave big cardboard boxes (flattened) out on recycling day beside our bag and they always take them! bignumber5
Ah, I haven't got a brown bin, my above troubles relate to a green bin. Bag: cardboard ok, but brown paper envelopes are a no-no: I gets awful confoozed...:-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3132-garden-waste-bins-anyone-else-had-theirs-filled-with-earth/#findComment-97941 Share on other sites

Cassius
Are we getting our bins and our bags in a muddle? From what I've read from the Southwark recycling bumpf - the bin men are not supposed to take cardboard from the green bins (or from beside them), they are, however, allowed to take cardboard that is included in the blue newspaper bags - although they are not happy about it. Asset
mine also seem to have no problem with taking large cardboard boxes with the blue bag stuff Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3132-garden-waste-bins-anyone-else-had-theirs-filled-with-earth/#findComment-97961 Share on other sites
mikese22
if i have a lot of cardboard (after a furniture delivery say) they often don't take it - but if you complain to Southwark they do respond and get it sortedi can't see what the problem is - surely of your job is to pick up rubbish or recyclables and through them into a truck, why would object to certain things??
