I emailed the usual [email protected] I didn't send to the direct email they use to reply back to enquires. I will try again, usually get a reply within about 30 minutes. Don't know whats happened here! Email sent on the 15th. I do email fortnightly for positions, but thats the predicament I'm in. Really hoping there has been a shift, if only slight in the last few weeks as I hear people are now starting to move around on lists. Fingers crossed. Sending email again now!

Thanks James but it was emails not phone calls. They never give me list positions on the phone and insist on a call back in a few days so I always opt for email.

I think I had a moment of madness today. I can't remember whether the woman on the phone said we were 4th or 5th now. I've now got it in my head that I'd talked myself into thinking we were 6th and then she said we were 5th. If 5th then we haven't moved at all. This is why emails are a good idea - I could have checked!! Duh! Have also emailed to ask to be out on a couple more waiting lists so hopefully I'll get a reply!

This waiting list thing does drive you mad ! I can't work out what is really happening. I haven't moved at all on the Goodrich list since day 1 but have moved far far away on the others. Its just a bit odd as I do know people who have moved down the waiting list.

I am just trying to stay positive.

Hi,

I haven't got a place at judith Kerr, but was emailed this...

EFA, CfBT and the other parties to the transaction will issue a joint press release in the next few days, and until then I'm not able to announce full details about the site. I'm sorry about that. However, I can say that we will be opening in the Herne Hill / SE24 area. A complete package about the building, grounds, and our plans for them, including pictures, will be on our website as soon as possible. We'll hope to organise some site tours during the summer.

Hope this sheds some light for those who need it.

I don't know what is going on with these waiting lists!! I rang today about the Goodrich waiting list after seeing ryekids post as we were originally 1st on the list then we dropped to 5th when I checked last week so I was wondering if we were back at 1st (ryekids went 2nd, 6th, 2nd). We are now 4th so we've moved 1 place in the right direction from last week but seeing all these posts it doesn't add up. Gina, we also got no response to emails suddenly either so I tried calling and they were happy to give me the info over the phone.
Goodness knows when (if ever) we're going to see a reasonable amount of movement with Ivydale. Doesn't help that they're not sending out letters or doing anything like that until July! Have Goodrich sent their letters out yet? I'm figuring that this might show up some gaps in the places offered.......
Did you get the automated response from the admission team and then just hear nothing after that? I can't bear ringing again - there's a woman who takes about an hour to get you a blooming answer - asks every last detail which I know isn't necessary as I've rung once and got another person and they gave the info straight off within a minute or so!
Number 2, I got the automated response then nothing after that. When I rang I must have got the good woman, she just asked name and DOB then gave me the answer straight away. I lost faith in the email thing when I'd had good info from one lady (Anita) and then one day I replied to a message she'd sent me earlier and got someone else who said "no change in your waiting list positions". I was fine with this once but when it happened again and I knew that others had changed positions I didn't believe it so tried phoning.

Hi all, you can remain at the same position if others are moving up eg at top of list, if people have been slotting in in between you and the people near the top (Kamath, this is what has happened to you, ie places have been given to people above you, but an equal number have also joined the list above you). I think that it's likely that you Ryekids and Bizzylizzy didn't ring on the same day/time and one of you contacted admissions before a waiting list update and one after. Unless people have slotted between you or either of you have be reclassified, you will be one place apart on the list.

Renata

Hi Page 2

Reclassified means eg from being positioned on the list by distance, being positioned higher up due to moving closer, a sibling gaining a place at the school or on social/medical grounds. Email Admissions of you wish your child to be added to other waiting lists.

FINALLY, over a week later I get a reply from Southwark. 2 places in the right direction at Heber (63), 1 place in the wrong direction at Dulwich Village (52), no change at Goodrich (40) or Bessemer (14). Now, can I call Bessemer and ask them how likely I am to get a place with them with this position and when? Southwark are failing to answer this question.

Desperately need to speak to school preference service, think thats tomorrows task. Advised by preschool to call ASAP. They will keep her until January but I'm concerned Southwark wont continue with funding that place at 15 hours a week only as they have found a place for her at primary. A place that Southwark wont let me reject unless I can prove I have provisions in place, which I will have if they will continue funding her place at preschool until January. Please tell me this makes sense to someone?!

Its mighty tough all of this.

I don't think Bessemer will know what the liklihood is as it's intake is very different this year...a very large proportion put it down as a first choice unlike a few years ago so they will not have experience of how many of this intake end up not taking the place....I would think you're still in with a shot at some point though...but would give up on the others!

I'm only holding my hopes in Bessemer. The others seem like such a long shot. At least its a direct bus route from right outside my home and my mother in law lives right at the top of greendale so can do some pick ups if I have hospital appointments, these usually clash with school pick up times EVERY time. Its the best 'alternative' option for the situation I'm in.

Langbourners.. Langbourne have sent out a letter today with a slip to send back on the bottom (by Monday 3rd June) to ask whether we require the place or not. Do I just reply that we don't? I still have no intention of sending her and don't want to hold a place we don't require/that she wont turn up for in September. I don't want to mess them around.

I'm sure Bessemer would be happy to talk through their experiences. It's a great school and with excellent leadership.

If you get stuck with the preschool to January complications do get in touch directly ot see if we can help unmuddy these waters.

    • Hey Sue, I was wrong - I don't think it would just be for foreign tourists. So yeah I assume that, if someone lives in Lewisham and wants to say the night in southwark, they'd pay a levy.  The hotels wouldn't need to vet anyone's address or passports - the levy is automatically added on top of the bill by every hotel / BnB / hostel and passed on to Southwark. So basically, you're paying an extra two quid a night, or whatever, to stay in this borough.  It's a great way to drive footfall... to the other London boroughs.  https://www.ukpropertyaccountants.co.uk/uk-tourist-tax-exploring-the-rise-of-visitor-levies-and-foreign-property-charges/
    • Pretty much, Sue, yeah. It's the perennial, knotty problem of imposing a tax and balancing that with the cost of collecting it.  The famous one was the dog licence - I think it was 37 1/2 pence when it was abolished, but the revenue didn't' come close to covering the administration costs. As much I'd love to have a Stasi patrolling the South Bank, looking for mullet haircuts, unshaven armpits, overly expressive hand movements and red Kicker shoes, I'm afraid your modern Continental is almost indistinguishable from your modern Londoner. That's Schengen for you. So you couldn't justify it from an ROI point of view, really. This scheme seems a pretty good idea, overall. It's not perfect, but it's cheap to implement and takes some tax burden off Southwark residents.   'The Man' has got wise to this. It's got bad juju now. If you're looking to rinse medium to large amounts of small denomination notes, there are far better ways. Please drop me a direct message if you'd like to discuss this matter further.   Kind Regards  Dave
    • "What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???" Why is it perceived, Reeves is responsible for doubling the "black hole" to £20b through the public sector pay increases. You can't live beyond your means and when you try you go bankrupt pdq. In 4 yrs time if this Govt survives that long and the country doesn't go bust before then, in 2029 I dread to think the state the country will be in.  At least Sunak and co had inflation back to 2% with unemployment being stable and not rising.
    • He seemed to me to be fully immersed in the Jeremy Corbyn ethos of the Labour Party. I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn. It doesn't wash with a party that is in actual government.   https://labourlist.org/2020/04/forward-momentum-weve-launched-to-change-it-from-the-bottom-up/
