Peckham Rye Station - rebuild

Lets not turn this into a race issue please. I'm equally dissatisfied with the number of estate agents on LL, but as you say if the demand is there then they will open up! I was just hoping for some diversity in the shopping experience, and how many of the same thing does one high street need? There's no excuse for ANY high street to be untidy, surely everyone can agree that a shopping experience without having to avoid littered pavements is a good thing?

Rye Lane has what Lordship Lane needs: fourteen places to get your phone unlocked and a tonne of fish ice dumped on the street every night.

.. and Rye Lane would certainly benefit from a dozen or so mediocre curry houses and the same number of estate agents.

Rye Lane has not one estate agent, coffee shop or curry house (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and it is a retail space at least twice the length and girth of Lordship Lane. Equally, LL does not have one signal hair extension shop or exotic food store (someone correct me if I'm wrong). *Bob* I think you could be onto something here. It will take more than a few cosmetic changes to an area like Peckham Rye to erase the t,v images of the riots that took place there and the shootings and undiserable gatherings of hoodie youths on bikes,intimidating anyonewalking by.

The culture that has developed there was part of the reason why the likes of Jones and Higgins, B.H.S, and other popular stores that were there since the nineteenth century have moved away.

The whole area was downgraded by shoplifters and bad customers who liked and still do ,being confrontational.

No one wants their bussiness,s in low grade areas like that.

Deptford and Lewisham went the same way, and Croydon is catching up.

They all could have been good if the councils had.nt allowed too manny low lifes to congregate in one area.

thats why know wants to live,shop, or buy homes in areas like that.

Get real,people its a ghetto slum. Pull it down.

LL has a few salons. I'm sure you could get extensions if you wanted. White people wear extensions too!

This exchange was suggested at the very start of this thread

Perhaps the residents of Ed with the perhaps backing of Cllr Barber could extend the hand of friendship and and put in place a relocation plan that makes sure all those displaced would be offered any empty shops on LL at affordable rents

Why should Peckham have all these wonderful businesses

LL does lack Nailshops. hair extension shops opened fronted meat and fish shops and masses of rubbish.

This could turn LL in a shopping destination

Peckham residents need better.

There's a coffee shop/caff at the Southern end on the western side. There's a delicious pizza/coffee place inside the indoor market and I am not sure that's the only one in there. There's a coffee/snack bar in the covered passageway in front of the station between the dentists and the veggie stall. There may be more.

The Council's own Overview Scrutiny Committee decided that there were issues which needed to be probed before the Cabinet decision was implemented. The Scrutiny meeting will take place this coming TUESDAY 7th MAY 6-7pm at Council HQ 160 Tooley Street.

Councillor Fiona Colley in charge of the station regeneration project will be speaking, and Peckham Vision and other enterprises on the site will also have a voice. It will be of interest to all who support the creative enterprises and independence of Peckham's local economy, and the need for a supportive nurturing approach to organic economic change.

At the Scrutiny meeting, the Council said they were not intending to acquire ALL interests, just as they were not intending to seek all vacant possession. They now have to come back to Cabinet to report on what they will be aiming to do so there will be a public chance to look at that, if they tell us they are doing it. So continued vigilance is needed. Meanwhile, the fright has strengthened the links that had already formed between enterprises on the site, including with Peckham Vision. Come to the Goose Green Fair on Sunday 12th May 11am-4pm to see our information displays, and discuss the issues.

The "CLFArtCafe" at the Bussey building near the station is a great place

Soul train one of their nights is brilliant

They also have the royal court theatre on the second floor who host plays

The standard in Peckham is being risen the council is getting in there and changing the face of Peckham - which is exciting
