Hello all,

I wondered, if any readers of the EDForum, have installed Solar panels on their property roof and would be happy to share their own experience about the following:

estimated costs of installation Solar Panel Installation?

Hurdles with council approval?

Access to govt grants? There seems a lot of grants available but wondered if these grants in reality are easy to access

Estimated saving from this type of investment?

Thank you in advance and look forward to your replies

I just had 5 panels and a 6.5kw battery installed by a new UK wide company called Otovo. They’re a Norwegian company and I’ve been very impressed with how the install went. Firstly good communication, secondly you don’t have to pay anything until work completed, finally the price was at least a third cheaper than anyone else quoted. I paid just over £7k, and an an additional £500 to the sub contracted installer to add bird mesh (who was v good). I would give the whole experience 5 stars. If you use this link, you’ll get £100 if you proceed with the install.  https://www.otovo.co.uk/r/pdhj1wjxr8bbmlmwkdxrd4x7pmwvpmlr

I’ll also get £100, and would be then happy to show you the install, and discuss how you can maximise your energy generation.

    • I'm in the middle of the civil service pension crisis with no pension for 4 months and counting. No access to the much publicised loans either. I have emailed Helen Hayes several times. It took her 6 weeks to contact Capita on my behalf but no follow up, no reply, she didn't attend the Westminster Hall debate about the issue either. Lots of other MPs are speaking and acting on behalf of their constituents but I've had no joy. Has anyone else please? What works to get help from Helen Hayes?

    • Honestly, the squirrels are not a problem now.  They only eat what has dropped.  The feeders I have are squirrel proof anyway from pre-cage times.  I have never seen rats in the garden, and even when I didn't have the cage.  I most certainly would have noticed them.  I do have a little family of mice which I have zero problem about.  If they stay outside, that's fine with me.  Plus, local cats keep that population down.  There are rats everywhere in London, there is plenty of food rubbish out in the street to keep them happy.  So, I guess you could fit extra bars to the cage if you wanted to, but then you run the risk of the birds not getting in.  They like to be able to fly in and out easily, which they do.
