Hey Marmora

louisiana has got it bang on - you are not behaving unreasonably; but your quite natural assumption that you were in a public space and are therefore free to do as you legally please is mistaken. my gaff, my rules, says "more london". the transfer of substantial public spaces to private hands is no less serious than the enclosures act was in 16 century.

I've just had a personal call from the manager of More London - apologising for the behaviour of his security staff.

There are no rules about sitting on the riverside wall, staff are told to advise people about safety if they are acting unreasonably (drunk on the wall, walking along it, fighting on it, playing on it) which seems fairly sensible.

Sitting on the wall in the sunshine with legs "landside" is perfectly OK.

Of course this message needs to get thru' to junior security staff in polyester outfits but it was nice to receive a personal apology.

Sorry we now have no reason for a sit on demo! We'll have to find another cause.

Hoorah, justice is done.

The badly uniformed one presumably has been put on a fizzer and MM, vindicated rides off into the sunset (wearing safety headgear, knee and elbow pads) mdestly shrugging off thanks and departing with a tight-lipped "There's things a man can't ride round"

Leaving us all to wonder "Who was that Marmora Man?"

    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
    • Clicking on your name, I see you've made seven posts on here since you joined  around four years ago, and they've all been about local libraries. And none of the posts are  very pleasant. Care to share with the rest of us where  your particular interest in libraries comes from? Do you work in one of them?
