Hi all Techy folks...

I have an old installation of Dreamweaver 4 resides @ C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 4\Dreamweaver.exe

I have now downloaded Dreamweaver CS6 Trial Version. resides C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\Dreamweaver.exe

Which seems to be working fine.

However in I highlight any .HTML file and use 'open with' Dramweaver it is opening in Dreamweaver 4.

If I use select program and navigate to the CS6 address.. I get an extra DW 4 icon and it opens with Dreamweaver 4

If I rename the Dreamweaver.exe from C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 4\

and then use select program and navigate to the CS6 address. no icon is created so cannot open the file.

CSS files 'open with' option opens fine with CS6. That is because .CSS file association is set to CS6.

I cannot set HTM & HLML associations to CS6 as they need to open in a Browser when clicked.

I do not want to uninstal DW4 just yet and not sure if that would solve the problem..

Any ideas Please..

I'm stuck with Dreamweaver but I have a different question:

When I upload a page, it asks if I want to upload dependent files i.e. pictures.

These go up reasonably swiftly and then invariably the upload jams on the last graphic and the connection is lost

Is it just shitty Dreamweaver or the ordure that is Virgin causing the phenomenon?

Ditch Dreamweaver and code in a text editor like Notepad++. It's easier to get into than you think, and you'd make far more efficient pages...

Failing that at a pinch I'd try uninstalling DW4, or perhaps both then reinstalling only DW6. That might hopefully clean out any file assocations.

Just spent 10 mins typing that I do use notepad++ for PHP @ C++

and the reason I need Dreamweaver as apposed to Frontpage..

Then EDF crashed. I need to type in notepad and cut and paste if typing long posts.

EDF always times out at about 8-10 mins. if I do not post message.

Really Annoying.

Hello Mr Fox, I think you'll need to enter the registry and adjust the file associations.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and change the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"

Not for the faint hearted! R/C

Thanks R/C

Yes I'm Ok around the Registry...

It was Dreamweaver and not Photoshop that was screwed but same basic path.

Not (64Bit) in my case..

All sorted out now..

Cheers again.

I know I'm repeating myself but...

Dreamweaver: When I upload a page, it asks if I want to upload dependent files i.e. pictures.

Hi stevo..

Not too sure what you are actually doing.

Are you talking about FTP to web hosting when you say upload.

It could be anti-virus preventing completion of upload.

Possible a Buffer problem. Time-out ??

    • Thanks all, our hope was (despite the diminishing estate) he would get on with it.  Progress is glacial, it's been two years since probate was granted, that's two cold and damp winters with no heating, and not surprisingly a pipe burst. He's blames the issues on the estate agent, who separately had a dispute with him, he had a wobbly when one of the beneficiaries spoke to the estate agent.  Separately he said it was the family's fault for letting the property get into a poor condition.  It was dated, but certainly not in poor condition. There are two five star reviews on Google, and five one star: ** WARNING** This solicitor firm has to be one of the worst I have encountered. The solicitor is prehistoric in his practices and will carry out work at his own snails pace, the fax machine he uses gets turned off at 2 pm and its near impossible to get him on the phone. STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, check the solicitors ombudsman, this firm has previous bad practice recorded.   Disgusting under no circumstances use this solicitor. For over 10 years he has not carried out the terms of a Will he has not re-invested money but has retained it.  He writes letters which are pure "Flannel" excuses for doing nothing.  You have been warned   shocking experience, delayed the whole process, told other side solicitors to not contact him as he feels pressured etc. never use.   Not fit for 21st century. No website, no email address, no electronic transfer. Very slow, very little communication.   Was not a pleasant experience dealing with this firm
