Ali56
I recently bought some bread and dips from Gail's Bakery in Dulwich village.I had been looking forward to trying the food from this bakery but was really disappointed. The bread was rather tough and the hummus had far too much lemon in and tasted more like lemon curd than hummus! The mackerel dip was a little better but I don't think I will be going there again. And it is very expensive. Sorry Gail's you don't get my vote. But it was packed out so maybe I am alone in my views! snooks
No I'm with you on that Ali56. Bought some wholemeal bread but too crusty on the outside (really crusty) and no guts on the inside Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32063-gails-artisan-bakery/#findComment-643411 Share on other sites
Jellybeanz
I like Gail's generally but prefer Blackbird Bakery bread - by the way EVERYTHING in Dulwich Village is expensive ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32063-gails-artisan-bakery/#findComment-643484 Share on other sites
HLW2009
I went to Gail's for the first time, I brought a salad which I took to the park, when I opened it I found there was some added protein in the form of a caterpillar! I did get a refund and an apology, but one member of staff laughed and asked if I named him! I will to be rushing back.. theron
I've been into Gails twice, to buy cinnamon buns, which are delicious BUT am completely put off by the pile of pastries and cakes stacked on the display stand just inside the door. I've seen a little girl flick her long hair over the cakes(yuk)and watched another kid stick his tongue out to have a sneaky taste(double yuk).I now go to the Blackbird Bakery where at least the edibles haven't been sneezed on and are delicious too. roblay
I had the same experience - very dry, tasteless and expensive (?1.60) baguette - can't help that the bread is displayed in the front window, in direct sunlight most of the day (amazing the number of places that do this). Also still not convinced by the self-service model in a lot of food shops these days, especially from a hygiene perspective. QueenMab
I'm another one who walked in and straight out again when I saw their wares piled up in the middle of the shop for everyone to cough and sneeze over, kids to poke their sticky fingers into, etc. Bleh. KalamityKel
Has anyone asked for goods that weren't on the displays as mentioned above? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/32063-gails-artisan-bakery/#findComment-668526 Share on other sites
