Columbia Flower Market

If you haven't been - GO! East End of London, just off the Hackney Road.

Starts at approx 7.30 every Sunday - begins to wind down about 11.30. Lots of cut flower and plants for planting. It's a riot of colour, crowds and noise. Bacon rolls, sausage sarnies, smoked salmon & cream cheese bagels, coffee & papers available for Sunday breakfast, plus a few curio shops. The sales patter is of a high quality; Petticoat Lane and Spitalfields are only a hop & skip away if you want to carry on the day out.

We've been using it for last three years, I'm not a gardener - I lift, shift and finance the purchases but Mrs MM assures me the prices are up to 50% less than local garden centres and far better quality.

Yep, it's a lovely market! Shame I haven't got a garden, I want to buy everything when I go there. It's not too expensive and even cheaper around closing time. The athmosphere is great, everybody carries flowers and plants over their shoulder, nice food stalls and sometimes music too.

Highly recommended!

Really? The no 78 goes to Liverpool St and it is only a short walk from there. The 40 also goes to Aldgate which is quite close. no need for a car at all. Plus flowers on the bus makes everyone smile!

    • Dog kennel isn't a great name for a school. I agree that it's ridiculous for the name to put anyone off going there, but don't see any issue with them rebranding if the parents and children prefer a new name. The school is surrounded by historical 'groves' (reflected in the names of Camberwell Grove, Grove park and Grove Vale for example), so it's not a totally random name.
    • It might help if there are body cams to record evidence and a presence maybe a deterrent but I very much doubt a park warden would intervene with obnoxious and violent thugs - children or not. We need police for that.
    • I had a leaky toilet cistern and Niko came out the same day and not only fixed the leak but thoroughly cleaned off the years of calcium build-up. His attention to detail was matched by his kind humanity. The result was a completely renovated toilet which has never worked more efficiently as well as 'service with a smile'. MANY THANKS NIKO!!!
    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
