Dont believe that Cactus Jack chancer! He's a rogue and a conman and he steals ice cream from small children. He asked me for a large deposit up front, which I was happy to provide. He however failed to deliver the goods, he kept reassuring me that this hadnt happened before and that he was normally very dependable in his delivery of customer satisfaction.

My arse! His attempts at satisfying my needs for a comfortable Fluffy orifice were laughable, it was loose and not fit for purpose and was prone to rattling when subject to a high wind. In the end I had the gap filled by a nice lady pipe fitter from Dunbar.

I fear for Fluffy, those Australian Parakeets are vicious little buggers and may wish to nobble him.

Hey, I don't make the rules: In this liberal society, if I had a cactus who came home and told me that he'd got a holly bush in trouble, I'd support him in taking on his responsibilities, and look to educate for the future. But we can't enforce human ideals on a cactus. In the wild, it's spike then move on. To tie a cactus down to the first holly bush he soils is to defy his natural instincts. That's just cruel.

I saw a cactus last night in Green and Blue and it near broke my heart. So young yet made up like a fishmonger's wife, it delivered a heartbreaking rendition of Where is Love...before tearfully struggling its way through a tap dance while singing You've got to Prick a pocket or two.

The judges - a man with piercing eyes and a touch of the John Barryman about him and a woman who reminded me of a small animal - cackled and cast the poor thing out into the mean street that is Lordship Lane.

A rose bush in a leotard was next up...

"West East Dulwich" -- how very dare you?

It's south North Dulwich, as any ful knows.

You could try cross-posting on the westdulwichforum...

I wonder whether Fluffy has been abducted by Aliens? I am working from home today, so this morning I was lying on my sofa with a cup of tea watching Discovery Channel and there was a programme on about such things -it seemed very credible.

I do hope his prickly little nether parts arent being probed as I type...

    • I raise your pedantry. Language evolves and Merriam Webster gives the meaning as "drastically reduced especially in number." The word originally derived from the Roman practice of killing every tenth soldier in a mutinous army but I'm sure nobody uses the word in that context now.
    • Thanks all for the replies.  When the roofer come to look at the roof more recently,  there were holes in the felt in the same place that the original leak had been,  as well as where the new leak is.  There doesn't seem to be a reason why a hole the the felt was the cause of one leak and not the other.  It would have been good to have got everything sorted at the same time,  rather than having to put scaffolding up again.  But my main issue is around the vagueness of a 10 year guarantee.  After work was done the first time,  the roofer gave us a summary of the work and just wrote '10 Yr guarantee' after, without specifying what exactly that means.   If a roofer comes and doesn't diagnose the problem quite right (which i imagine is common with roofs, given it's not always clear what's causing a leak), the guarantee doesn't seem to apply. But anyway,  we'll be getting a different roofer, because we think he should have checked the felt under the tiles the first time round.
    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
