I am trying to order a new washing machine for my tenant but apparently you can't get them to disconnect the old appliance. My plumber can't lift/remove the old one, just install the new one so I am going to have to get it disconnected before he can come again to re-connect. Just wondering if this is something that you could easily do yourself?

Normally your washing machine will be connected using connectors like this.

There may be one.. Cold feed Blue

Or two Cold feed Blue / Hot feed Red.

Just turn the coloured tabs 90 degs. and then disconnect the hoses.

as mentioned it is technically very easy but they can be difficult to get in and out. lots of wiggling and pulling and pushing. they are quite heavy.

advice to pick a supplier that does the job i.e. currys is a good idea imho. just check the height before buying :)

Hi Bobbaz,

The answer to your question is yes.

There are three things to do:

1. Your old machine is plumbed in. See DulwichFox's advice above. You probably only have a cold water supply (blue knob). Turn the knob and disconnect it.

2. Your machine is plugged in to the electricity somewhere (possibly behind your cupboards). Unplug it.

3. You have a water outlet. This may be under your sink or behind your cupboards. If under your sink disconnect it. If feeding directly into a waste pipe simply pull it out.

Unless the plumber who installed it was a complete nutter all three points should be readily accessible. You may need to get on your knees to traces the cables etc.

Your washing machine may be wired straight into the wall, rather than simply plugged in. The likes of Currys wont install if it is wired into the wall.

Before I replaced mine I replaced the powerpoint with a standard 3 pin socket.
