macroban
[ ASCII(46) ]This small watercolour dates from c1810.I've always thought that this view looks towards Camberwell. In the absence of modern landmarks, and having regard to the idiosyncracies of the colourist, would anyone like to give a second opinion? lilolil
You are probably right as there would have been hills if you were looking the other way!!! Muttley
What's the title of the painting, is it called 'Dog kennel hill'. That cottage looks familiar, isn't there a cottage/gatehouse like that on the left as you head down Grove Hill Road (with DKH school on your right). This is a really tantalising image, I look forward to somebody nailing it. kford
It's similar to that pre-tram shot you posted. Fascinating. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3416-a-dog-kennel-hill-mystery-from-the-early-nineteenth-century/#findComment-106718 Share on other sites
macroban
Not much information to go on:"Dog Kennel Hill" on reverse in pencilArtist did not sign itc1810 is an estimateThe only clue, apart from the cottage, is the white building in the middle-ground which is possibly the old pre-1844 St Giles, Camberwell, which had a tower but no spire.
