EastDulwichRose
Noise nuisance is unacceptable no matter what time of day. The Council has a duty to keep their tenants safe from anti-social behaviour. You should phone Council and the Police, so each incident is logged onto their computer systems. Zebedee Tring
You could gently inform him that you are mates with some seriously heavy Sarf London geezas who could come round and 'ave a word with him if he continues with the noise. This might work since he might not want to risk playing loud music on the ground that you are bluffing. youandiaredominoes
Currently experiencing similar problem but there are also complicated family matters at play too. One of the children upstairs has been arrested a few times for antisocial behaviour but returns or forces his way in and plays loud music or causes a ruckus. Big shame because we like our flat but might move out because of noisy neighbours - a major inconvenience for us.I don't agree that just because we live in London or in closer proximity to other people that loudness should be tolerated. It's about respect. I don't host loud parties or raise my voice - so why should I or anyone else who plays by the rules have to put up with it?! DJKillaQueen
But someone having a one off party for example is different than daily disturbance by repeated noise. One I think can be tolerated, the other can't. There are definitely people who are unreasonable when it comes to what is deemed acceptable noise (and they are often lone voices) and then there are people who are unreasonable when it comes to disturbing their neighbours. In a mega city there will always be noise....it's just a question of finding and enforcing reasonable balance. Earl Aelfheah
You should report it to the council before taking the drastic action of moving. If they're council tenants the may help. youandiaredominoes
Reported it already to the council, the police and my landlord (who owns both flat, but is useless). Alas it continues - its like they're stupid or ignorant, or something. As I say, there are other complicated factors at play and it is difficult to get to the bottom of what is going on but all I know is there are frequent disturbances and the police call round every now and again. Also - sorry Lynnne for hijacking the post somewhat. Should i start one afresh if this is a bit of a tangent? Cyclemonkey
There is currently a very very loud party somewhere at the Peckham Rye end of East Dulwich Road. To the point where we cannot have our windows open at all. I'm not a killjoy but i am trying to read some papers for an early morning work meeting, my concentration is not helped by someone playing reggae so loud it may as well be in my flat. David A
It's in the estate at the top of Fenwick, Cyclemonkey. It is very loud but more worryingly someone's just changed the vibe from lover's rock to late Luther, Lionel and Stevie - not even the early stuff. At least it's pretty eclectic, I'm kind of looking forward to King Tubby vs USA for Africa later. Cora
The problem with one off 'parties' is that in a dense population this can lead to a lot of disturbances. We are now on our fifth weekend of different neighbours waking us up between 2 and 6.30 am with music, parties, late talking in the garden, oh and karaoke on returning from the pub is a particular favourite. I think midnight should be the cut-off or go to a club/bar, there's hardly a shortage of them. I'm even beginning to think parking ticket type fines should be handed out...waking up with a hangover and a ?100 fine might not seem so 'cool'.....oh and call me bitter but maybe the fine should arrive around 8am just when they are beginning their morning snooze off the night before...but I'm getting carried away! Cyclemonkey
Yeah i actually enjoy the style of music so it could be worse! The problem is the bass which is vibrating our flat. I also have to be up very early so am vaguely concerned about this going on late.We are on the edge of Solway Road and i think the u shape of the road is acting like an amplifier bouncing the noise back so we get it on both sides of the flat. Cora
Report it to the council now, then you've got a chance of getting it sorted if it just keeps going...you don't want to be still umming and ahhing at 1am, work not done and no sleep. Cyclemonkey
Thanks Cora will do. I actually found some ear plugs i use when flying, which proved so effective i promptly dropped off for about an hour! It does seem to have quietened down now in any case (yes i have taken the ear plugs out!) Hilariously my partner hasn't noticed a thing as he's been ensconced in the other side of the flat listening to the cricket on his headphones all afternoon! uncleglen
If all the noise polluters really only genuinely want to listen to their music loudly then they would use their headphones and leave the rest of us in peace. But I fear that this is some kind of territorial, showing-off, puerile behaviour and the only thing that can be done about this mindset is obviously some strict enforcement of the anti-pollution legislation such as immediate confiscation of equipment after one warning. Cyclemonkey
Right i have told the Council now as it's 10pm and they are still going strong, which is a bit rude for a Sunday night i think. Cyclemonkey
Seems to be quiet now. Big thanks to the Southwark noise people, quiet after 8 hours of this i'm grateful for a bit of peace. Definitely worth my council tax money! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/34218-noisy-neigbhours/page/2/#findComment-663435 Share on other sites
