Gaming advice?

never ever owned a games console jobby, but really fancy having a go at some of the formula 1 and racing games. But not sure where to start? Playstation 3? Xbox? Any pointers?

xbox 360 is great. They're releasing a new xbox soon I believe, so you'll be able to pick up a 360 at a good price, and there are loads and loads of games to choose from.

I have been a 360 advocate for last 6 years but ps3 has really come into its own in last 12 months

A ps plus account (same price as Xbox live account) gives you access to free recent premium games. Every month , you can download free stuff as part of te package. Worth looking at

But a 360 is an awesome machine and as otta says should be able to get some bargains

If you have a PC you could just use that without forking out for new hardware.

Other than that as otta says you'll get good bargains on the current gen machines when the new ones get released, other than that its much of a muchness.

PS3 is a bit more powerful but I've owned my xbox for 7 years (blimey!!!) and it's still going strong.

Haha, I gave a lot of my life up to Oblivion, which is why I started Skyrim and saw the danger so stopped before I really got going. I'm saving it for my retirement in about 35 years time.

Biggest dissapointment of this gen was me playing Skyrim for a day and realising that all those months playing Oblivion meant I just didn't want to play it anymore. I was impressed by the world, but the gameplay left me unmoved

Yeah, same experience for me. Been there, done that. Which as you say, is a shame because it looked lovely.

Although Fallout 3 was Oblivion in the future and I liked that, but Skyrim is just too close to Oblivion.

mission structure aside, it's the combat which is the biggest bugbear for me

If you have never owned a console, then for little money you can bick up either a 360 or a PS3 and get a stack of cheapish games and free demos

The two "serious" driving games are Gran Turismo on PS3 and Forza on 360. Again, you can download demos and check out the mechanics to see which suits you best

Many other racing games exist from F1 to offroad and rally games.

I prefer the controller and online environment of the 360, but as I say the value of a PS plus account can't be dismissed either

I've the force feedback wheel on xbox, which I rarely get to crack out, but it is superb on Forza.

I never "got" the appeal of driving games. Each to their own though obviously.
