Melbourne Tyres closed down (Update: Dulwich Tyres opens in its place)

I recently heard Melbourne Tyres has now closed down. 

I'm sure many people have used this service or sought advice from Joey, the owner, since opening  40+ years ago.  He'll be missed. 

The builder mentioned it would be reopening shortly as a new shop

It was only a matter of time before this happened. Another useful  local service gone

No doubt there will be a new expensive shop that appeals to a few  people.

A great loss.

It's true. Drivers will now have to travel as far as...about 150 feet to the huge Kwik-Fit across the road if they want to get tyres fitted.

No, I used to use Acre Lane Tyres, which is 12 minutes drive from East Dulwich according to Google maps.

I've often used Melbourne tyres but I'm so old that before then I used to get my tyres from the place that's now Bora grocers on the corner near Franklins.

Once in 20 years, and the chap was friendly and the tyres were well priced

a very nice man ,much better prices than down the road, he will be missed

I used him to pump up my tyres as have difficulty in bending  always gave him some money as he was so helpful.

We live nearby and often chatted with friendly Joe. Sad to see him go, he said he was retiring.

Heard it’s going to be a café/coffee shop on the day he left.

Dulwich needs more coffee shops,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Could do with a nice affordable greasy spoon type set up since Maria at the Grove cafe moved on. Dulwich cafe now also gone. They were great little places and always a familiar face or two about when we paid our weekly visits.

Please not another overpriced coffee shop.  I heard it will still be a tyre place, hope so!!

New signage is up and indicates it’ll continue on as a tyre/car shop

Can't help thinking that regardless of whether Joe wanted to be interviewed, the 'story' that Southwark News wanted to write just got a lot less interesting with 'tyre shop replaced with ... tyre shop'!

The shop has reopened as Dulwich Tyres & Car Services. 020 8299 6467. It seems very busy.

I wouldn't believe your radio @zork...

Please @Administrator could the title be changed to "Dulwich Tyres opens at old Melbourne Tyres location" or similar, when you have a moment?
