Brendan
The only place you are likely to come across trouble in ED would be outside the pubs on the bottom bit of Lordship Lane on a Friday with all and sundry all stellad up and spilling out onto the pavements. Even then it is unlikely. You will only get trouble in the Le Bastille if you do something like insult one of the regulars. mockney piers
The Castle on Walworth Road might be a bit 'tastier' than East Dulwich's.The Uplands was once upon a time, but now they just shout at pervs trying to get an eyeful in the ladies. SeanMacGabhann
Seven years in the area, and not once came close to any trouble in the pubsThe old Goose and Granite/Plough was always the most likely for a bit of aggro - but the "new" Plough is a world away from that and is one of my favourite pubs in ED now Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3447-what-makes-a-good-pub/page/2/#findComment-108137 Share on other sites
Ted Max
I was told that the Magdala used to be very reliable for a "proper punch up" (vis - manly, square-go, fisticuffs) of a Saturday night, but sadly those days are long gone now - along with the glasses stacked 15 deep along the bar, the carpet and the velour seating. Shame. Nowadays it's full of idiots with MacBook Pros WFP and watching the cricket, I hear. Ted Max
Truly, we are no longer in that place and we can never go back. We're in a different place now. Is the session over already? I'll pay on the way out. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3447-what-makes-a-good-pub/page/2/#findComment-108157 Share on other sites
ratty
Used to live next door to the mag when Mick had it! Saw a good few punch ups in there! Wonderful! Keef
Plough, Mag and Foresters (not The Bishop) used to be pretty reliable, but all very proper these days.I'd still recommend avoiding The Bishop though, as it's generally crap!
