syncro
I have a problem...Damn flies in my kitchen! Tiny ones, they fly quite slowly and don't seem to be that fixated with food although they do come out of the bin a lot. I've bleached everywhere, but a day later and they are all over the place again, I'm going through a can of fly spray every few days..Help! ANy tips for getting rid of them, or finding what they are so intrigued by in my kitchen?? uncleglen
They are fruit flies and they breed quickly. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/34831-damn-flies/#findComment-666497 Share on other sites
syncro
I thought they must be fruit flies, but everything is put away, there's nothing really for them to get to. They just keep coming back. I googled it and apparently they can breed in drains so bleaching everywhere again!KidRugger think you're right. I've put some apple cider in a jar apparently that catches them too, and will hunt for some fly paper! The Minkey
That's strange you are still inundated if there is no food source. Whenever I've had fruit flies, I get rid of whatever overripe fruit or peelings are attracting them and they disappear. The vent on your food recycling bin isn't set to open, is it? Andybol
I know this will sound bizarre but it worked for me the other day. Stick some listerine in a spray bottle and spray the flies. It kills em quite quickly. We also sprayed our windo frames and door frames and not one fly has come backReally weird I know but works. JohnL
That's expensive - but maybe safer than fly spray.Andybol Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I know this will sound bizarre but it worked for> me the other day. > > Stick some listerine in a spray bottle and spray> the flies. hafsjah
Tip I got of EDF last year - Small drop wine or vinegar in narrow-neck bottle with small funnel inserted in neck. Place where the flies tend to congregate. After 2 or 3 days - no more flies. Flush out bottle of dead flies. BellendenBear
Sounds like they could be fungus flies rather than fruit flies. Do you have lots of house plants? We had loads of them a couple of months ago. We put all the kitchen plants outside for a while and the problem quickly solved. If you google fungus flies / gnats there is lots of advice on how to clear them.
