Was anyone ever charged and did it get to court? I haven't seen anything further

  • Joe changed the title to Banksy artwork in Rye Lane stolen

A big thank you to Banksy for trying again to give us a beautiful art piece. It looked great. Apologies for the scumbags. Maybe if you are ever Kind enough to  think of us in future you could do a self destructing one that stains their sticky little fingers for a long time.

I imagine Banksy is absolutely delighted each time one of his pieces gets nicked. Lots of press exposure and he still makes millions from prints on coasters, t.shirts and all the other tat.

Does anyone else think his work is the kind hackneyed dross you'd expect from a first year student, who's just read an idiot's guide to socialism? Always thought it was hype, personally.

Oh gosh this is awful. How terrible. There will be lots of well to do parents trying to explain to Isla and Noah that someone with an ill and working class mind has stolen the picture that they worshipped for ten minutes or less when they were out and about for a whole weekend. The entire country should mourn.

Soz, should have said half a minute. The entire country must mourn x

Three men, masked and in black. Nobody tried to stop them, even when thy ran off. I didn't realise at first it was a robbery. If you see 3 men on a roof doing a job, you don't automatically think they're stealing something. Well, I don't. There were news cameras there already which I thought was odd. The camera man said he'd expected something to happen so he'd just waited. Odd.

They got the dish down the ladder and then ran off down the Rye. If there's ever an Olympic event for running along a crowded street carrying a large satellite dish and a ladder I can recommend this lot.

Not Only Fools and Horses as they didn't drop it.

Another way of looking at it is that the Chartwell Cancer Trust (on whose building the sculpture was fixed - it wasn't a picture) won't benefit from it now it's been stolen. Not from attention, footfall or flogging it.

The artwork wasn't even bolted down.  It seems Mr Banksy likes to make his Peckham artwork very nickable.  It's all part of the spectacle.

I imagine it's his way of making his work accessible to the working class.  I Know of someone whose house he erected a piece of work....she had it carefully removed and earned millions from it. Some would say why shouldn't the working class benefit from it? Some would say it's equal distribution...provided they  replace the satellite dish, pay for the sign..

Some would say he commits a crime by defacing public property

Some would say they appreciate the art in their area

some would say it's mediocre work.....

Some would say I don't care what it looks like, it could change my life....it's understandably tempting

As an insufferable pedant, I would argue that the last 'piece' was more Camberwell then Peckham (although admittedly debatable).

    • Oh give it a break.  We have an MP who makes racist comments, yet our media (and what seems like this Forum) that generally hate Labour (and loved Johnson) are just out looking for the dirt. It's a move on, nothing to see here.  Particularly if she used a letting agency.

    • I don't think a single all-inclusive URL is easily doable.  When you enter a search the system presents the result without any of one's search parameters added to the URL.  So I suggest you go to https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=advanced where you just need to enter the address -- use SE22 8EW -- and the  Date Received start date.  I used 1/1/2025.  The three Tesco applications, all minor things, were all made in May.  The Simple search that I'd done previously had no time limit, and didn't include anything else that might have been from Tesco in the last two years. Incidentally, when I searched on the address 29-35 Lordship Lane it did not pick up the Tesco applications, which were held as 29 - 35 Lordship Lane Grrr!
