The ability to quote a thread and write the word "Yawn" shows a lack of ingenuity a numbers player could never reach.

Well they will be buying their way to Wembley. I recall the Arse did this some years ago and not particularly successfully. I'm sure I read the would have to pay something in the region of ?15M to stay there for a season. Makes you wonder how WH got away with blue murder paying ?1.something M for the Olympic Stadium.

Yeah Arsenal did it late 90s, I think because they wanted to flog more tickets than they could at Highbury. Problem was Highbury was a narrow pitch, and the old Wembley a wide one, so they struggled to play their normal defensive game (I don't mean their overall game and style was at all defensive in those days, but they were very solid at the back when at home).

I think we can fill it. We've 50,000 on the waiting list for season tickets. Yeah, one-nil to the Arsenal. God they were boring. Successful, but it was like watching paint dry. So give Arsene Wenger some credit, he got them playing very attractive football. Arsenal fans wanting rid of him know nothing about the game. Careful what you wish for.

Yeah, the West Ham fiasco stinks. It isn't what I pay my tax for. And giving the Conservative Party a bung sticks in my craw too.

I think by the time they were using Wembley they'd long passed the boring Arsenal phase. It was in the days of Bergkamp, Overmars, Petit et al.

Yeah.

Anyway, I've just watched I Believe In Miracles, the remarkable story of Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest team that went from second division mid-table mediocrity to the champions of Europe in a few seasons. Absolutely brilliant. If you haven't seen it watch it. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I disagree. He's what Eric Cantona would describe as a 'water carrier'. In the two games he's played for England I don't think he's done enough to warrant a place in the squad. Some of the other players you could say have been a bit lucky because of their fitness levels (Sturridge, Henderson and Wilshire) but they are better players than Drinkwater. It's Townsend I feel sorry for. He's never let Roy down and has always done the business when he's put on an England shirt and he was unlucky to miss out at the last World Cup because of injury and he's been bang in form unlike Raheem Sterling whose form has been very poor throughout all of last season but has got in ahead of him.

Water carrier to describe Drinkwater, nicely (if unintentionally) done.

Wilshere, Henderson and Sturridge are all unfit and extremely lucky to be included. When we've gone to tournaments before with unfit players it's usually backfired. I don't think whether a player is more talented counts for anything if they're unfit, have we not learned from Rooney in the past?

I would've gone for Townsend instead of Sturridge, he's got something different, can play out wide, dribble and beat players, good free-kicks. We don't have any naturally wide players now.

Also would've had Drinkwater in for Henderson. He has a good understanding with Vardy and the runs he makes for long through balls.

The biggest concern though is the defence, we haven't got one...

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
