I agree with all this. Football, or rather The PL has changed everything from the game that I hark back to. It's showtime now, lead by TV on a global level and to be honest atmosphere be damned as it's all about the audience in America or Asia. The sums add up, if you have a global audience willing to pay ?1 in pay per view (which with the way TV is being consumed in a "pick what you want" model) for say Man utd V Arsenal and that audience is 500 million, that's half a billion revenue per game.

It's mad and it goes to show why teams are so desperate to stay in the premier league. Coming next a European super league, it's in negotiation, I think it will happen and Television money drives this, not the fan who pays his entry fee on match day, sadly.

I'm not sure it will happen. It takes away one of the fundamental things that makes European sport great and separates it from the US way of doing things. Promotion and relegation.

I just can't see enough clubs agreeing to it.

Also, the Premier League is such a massive money spinner in it's current form. The new super-league would have to be at least as equally lucrative to the premier league clubs and even then it would be taking away the huge financial advantage they have over the other European leagues. I just can't see the big premier league clubs giving up that advantage.

I thought it was the big European clubs alone that were agitating for it because of the PL's financial muscle, which sort of makes sense. The bottom club in the PL will receive more money than Bayern Munich will for winning the Bundesliga. Utd have usurped Madrid by signing Pogba, a sign of things to come whereby PL clubs can now go out and get the best players...

Don't think it would work that well -

European Football is more boring on the whole, though technically better

Atmosphere would be diluted as - far less away fans for weekly fixtures & novelty would wear thin, gates are already poor in many countries until KO stages and, crucially, in most leagues the paying fans would rather their domestic leagues d rivals

Premiership doing too good as RD said

Bumping this up as it's the big kick-off tomorrow...

I'd be all up for the going back to the old format. Only the Champions playing in the 'Champions' league and everyone else in the Europa. The UEFA Cup used to be such a fantastic tournament. Today's is a pale imitation.

There are lots of angles here.

Politics and sport shouldn't be mixed. But anti apartheid protests at sport played a big role

Celtic fans have sported occasional Palestinian flags for years

Its a lot of money for the palestinian refugee charity

Its a motivation to the Isreali team for tonight

Its not going to go down well with the Islreali support, so there could be trouble

Uefa might lodge a bigger fine as the charitable donation is now high profile

But its not just Celtic fans now. Some of the comments are interesting: one here from a rangers fan

Josh Mainka

I might support the team from the other side of the city, but having spent time in Gaza and Palestine I'm more than happy to contribute to your great cause. Total respect to Celtic fans for taking a stand

    • Where did I say he did a good job? Yup and Corbyn was very close to Len McCluskey and funded by Unite wasn't he...they're all as bad as each other... Labour have to purge their party of the far-left - they're a disaster. Allan Johnson summed it up so well on election night in 2019....
    • Thank you for the detailed advise @trinidad It is definitely damage we are concerned about. I don’t think Evri would agree to pay the bill to fix our gate or letter box if they were to be damaged as a result of their delivery drivers helper. Our doorbell can be heard from outside when rung so we don’t quite believe the aggressive simultaneous door/letter box banging is necessary. It can be quite a shock it is done very aggressively.  I’ll definitely action the steps you’ve kindly provided along with a phone call tomorrow. I do sympathise with the role drivers have and how busy they are, which is why we tried communicating directly with her but sadly we haven’t succeeded
    • What outcome would you like? Disciplinary action? Not to have the driver back? Retraining? I know there is alot of pressure on drivers to deliver within a set day. if he slams the gate, is it evidence he is causing damage, or is the noise a irritant to yourself? You could put a sign up or buy a signing asking to close the gate gentle???? can you hear the door bell from the door? he might be ringing, not hearing and therefore knocking. In trhe notes section of the be livery page, there is a note section, although there is not 100 per cent these notes would be read as these drivers are constantly rushing.  I did a google search for you, i found this and you can try the envri website Contact Us | Evri   To complain to Evri, you can follow these steps: Contact Customer Service: Call Evri's customer service at 0330 808 5456 for assistance with your complaint.    1 Write a Letter: Address your complaint to Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS27 0WH.    1 Use the Official Website: Visit the Evri complaints page on their official website for detailed instructions on how to submit a complaint.    2 Email or Call for Specific Issues: For issues like missing or damaged parcels, you can email or call 0800 988 8888, which is free to call.    1 These methods will help you effectively communicate your concerns to Evri.   My driver is called anthony, he is brilliant to be honest. I cant fault him.
    • When I have more time and energy, I will look up the actual number of votes cast for each party in that election, rather than the number of seats won. I'm interested to see that you apparently  think that  Boris Johnson did a good job of "leading the country through Covid." Is your memory really that short? I won't stoop to calling Johnson and his cronies names in the way that you seem to think is appropriate for left wing politicians. At least the left wing politicians have some semblance of morals and a concern for people who aren't in some over privileged inner circle and/or raking in money for themselves on the back of an epidemic. I'm not going to open a can of worms on here  by commenting on the disgraceful so called "purge".
