How long is reasonable?

if you are willing to buy something and someone offers you it by PM how long is reasonable before they sell it to someone else?

Hard to say. If you went back to them straight away and arranged a time/day I wouldn't expect them to sell to anyone else until after the time you arranged to collect. If you hadn't gone back and communicated with them, fair enough for them to sell elsewhere.

I wonder about this myself. I have arranged times to collect items being sold on the forum, gone to collect only to find people not home. When I enquire about the item I'm told someone got in touch later who could come earlier, but didn't bother to let me know! Really infuriating!

I've had hassle both selling and buying, but usually it works fine - it's just people and some can stick to a deal or be courteous and some can't / don't feel obliged.
