What on earth is going on with the fountain in the Sexby garden section of Peckham Rye? The garden itself has been really stunning this year, but the fountain has just been left to fall into ruin. The water is now covered in pond weed and has the odd drink can floating on the surface.

I haven't seen any work going on at all to try and get it going again.

Who can be contacted about getting it repaired as it really does ruin a lovely area of the park.

probably worth an email to the gardeners via the southwark website - this is the link for feedback/comments

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. The gardens and borders have been lovely, and the sexby garden is a delight, but the poor old fountain is looking a bit sad.

Nope, I spoke with gardeners there and they told me that as people's dogs keep being allowed in the Sexby garden off the lead (previous signs seem to be taken down telling dogs owners to put dogs on leads), the dogs go in to fountain and screw up the wiring within. Don't shoot the messenger!

Photo is greatly compressed to fit here so much detail lost..

Original was 5 mega pixels compressed to 250k

..and was not created with Photoshop..

Someone offered me ?80.00 for a mounted A3 print. But not for sale.

My phone takes photos like that at the touch of a finger :))

Maybe I could make my fortune :))

Sue...

Please take your phone to Sexby Gardens and reproduce my pic. and post it here.

My original pic was a colour Pic.

It was converted to black and white.

Partial Solorization was performed until desired effect was achieved. very unpredictable process.

Varying levels of contrast and brightness was then tried

And Finally Hue was added manually.

Pop in any time you are passing and see the Original Print.

The Print looks different to the limited colours oh an HTML web page.

Also the original has extreme fine detail.

The sort of detail you get when you spend ?900.00 on a single lens.

Printed on High Grade Inkjet Paper using manufacturers recommended Pigment Ink.

A special Ultra Chrome Inkset.

Pigment Inks are more water resistant than dye based inks.

Pigment inks are also more fade resistant than dye based inks.

All my Prints are then sprayed with a special UV Water Resistant Lacquer.

They are estimated to last 100+ years.

Hi all, here is the actual story about the fountain from southwark parks. All perfectly normal stuff and nothing to do with dogs.

"There have been a series of issues with the fountain. At first there was just a crack in the bowl and works to repair this had been organised. We then found that the water that leaked out had caused a problem with the electrics in the pump. This has taken much longer to investigate, the non-standard nature of the parts created a delay in finding alternatives. I've recently heard back from our contractor and work should start on the pump next week, when it's done the rest of the water can be pumped out, the pond cleaned and the concrete repaired. We can then re-fill and turn the fountain back on"

also, I think we all agree that peckham park has looked lovely (again) his year so it might be worth dropping them a line to say how much it is appreciated.

Parts of it have looked lovely, but parts of the park are also badly in need of weeding (and no, I'm not referring to areas of wild flowers!) and could generally do with a bit of TLC.

I guess this is due to budget cuts, but it's very sad. It reminds me of what happened to South London parks (and probably others) in the Thatcher era, when everything was contracted out and went downhill fast. The walled garden in Brockwell Park and The Rookery at the top of Streatham Common were prime examples.

    • I do hope NOT, wouldn't trust Farage as far as I could throw him, Starmer & co.  He's backed by GB News which focus's predominantly on immigration while the BBC focus predominantly on the Israel - Gazza conflict.
    • Everyone gets the point that Corbynites try to make with the "total number of votes cast" statistic, it's just a specious one.  In 2017, Corbyn's Labour got fewer votes than May's Tories (both the percentage of votes and aggregate number of votes). In 2019, Corbyn's Labour fewer votes than Johnson's Tories (both the percentage of votes and aggregate number of votes); and he managed to drop 2.7 million votes or 6.9% of vote share between the two elections. I repeat, he got trounced by Boris F***ing Johnson and the Tories after the Brexit omnishambles. It is not true that a "fairer" electoral system would have seen Labour beat the Tories: Labour simply got fewer votes than the Tories. Corbyn lost twice. There is no metric by which he won the general election. His failure to win was a disaster for the UK, and let Johnson and Truss and Sunak into office. Corbynites have to let go of this delusion that Corbyn but really won somehow if you squint in a certain way. It is completely irrelevant that Labour under Corbyn got more votes than Labour under Starmer. It is like saying Hull City was more successful in its 2014 FA Cup Final than Chelsea was in its 2018 FA Cup Final, because Hull scored 2 goals when Chelsea only scored 1. But guess what - Chelsea won its game and Hull City lost. Corbyn's fans turned out to vote for him - but an even larger group of people who found him repellant were motivated enough to show up and vote Tory.
    • I guess its the thing these days to demonstrate an attitude, in this instance seemingly of the negative kind, instead of taking pride in your work and have standards then 🤷‍♀️
