Found Darren on this forum and just wanted to leave some feedback for anyone looking for a guttering / roofing supplier:

Maybe I was unlucky but I didn't have such a positive experience - we had work done but not the work that was needed to prevent further damage to an outside wall and as a result the water damage spread and now face the bill for internal damp and redecoration for the living room (as well as the original bedroom) AND our adjoining neighbour's living room wall which was also affected.

After further rain damage I had another company round - who replaced a cracked drainpipe on the front of the house for a much lower amount of ?150 and hey presto - leaks and further damage have stopped..

Unlucky experience? maybe? maybe not...

I also found Darren on the forum but had a really positive experience.

He came round very promtly and fixed our blocked drain there and then. He explained the issue and charged a very competitive price.

I'm very pleased and will definitely be calling him next Autumn to clear our drains out again.

Thanks very much Darren!

I'm afraid I've had a poor experience with Darren. He charged most of 1000 for repairing a leak on a high asphalt flat roof. He did oblige and come back when it started to leak again but I've subsequently found (as another roofer's photos testify) that his repair of deep cracks on the asphalt consisted of painting them with a dark material rather that dealing with the cracks properly. His time and materials were minimal.

I'm now much later having a roofer (highly recommended on EDF) start from scratch. He has shown me photos of the damaged and painted asphalt crack repairs. He has explained the the deep cracks will need special heat treatment and the whole roof will need special sun resistant treatment and it will be guaranteed for 3 years. I will feedback once the job is done.

just to add some positive feedback. called Darren this morning when rain started coming through rear loft roof. although a bank holiday, darren came around immediately, quickly identified the problem, replacing broken tiles and mending flashing. Of course it remains to be seen if the leak has been fixed but for now I am pretty impressed by Darren's prompt attention and clear explanations of what was wrong.

get another opinion mate ,an asphalted roof requires no such specail treatment .you use that on a flat roof done in 3 layer felted roofs by either a solution to hold shingle or a specail reflective paint asphalted roofs once cracked need to be renewed you just can not patch them unlike felted roofs

Proof is in the pudding. I've had continuous leaks with dreadful internal damage following expensive repair (and rerepair) of flat roof by Darren and excellent result after Russell Perring subsequently sorted it out.....I've got no axe to grind but would not wish similar experience on anyone else!

    • I've been there for lunch a few times and the home cooked asian food (as part of Sweat Dreams cafe) is genuinely great and a must try. I think the food side of the business has been slow to be noticed but people are now realising what is actually hidden in plain sight.  As for the Aroma Lab coffee ... it is excellent, they are very welcoming and friendly (and unpretentious!). This Australian coffee snob is mightily impressed!!
    • Do you mean put out things like live mealworms for the parents to feed to the young? Or that the parents will eat the food you put out and therefore can save "wild" live food for the young rather than eating it themselves? On another matter, several weeks ago I moved my bird feeders to another part of my (very small) garden because the area they were in was totally scratched up by pigeons, and I lost several plants I had had for decades and was very fond of 😭 It is now just bare earth with no plants,  and I've got to start again. And block up a fox hole in one corner. I suspect the foxes are tunnelling beneath the garden, as there are several holes. I hope the ground doesn't suddenly collapse beneath me! I cleaned everything and put in fresh seed, but so far all that has visited the new area (that I have actually seen)  is one rather fat sparrow. And a cat. Sitting hopefully beneath the feeders 🤬 No goldfinches (I have a niger seed feeder and have seen the occasional goldfinch in the garden) and no tits, though I've heard both blue tits and great tits nearby. Plus the flock of sparrows who used to come and seem to have deserted the garden. Hopefully they will find the feeders. I've cut back some of the greenery, which doesn't help, as they have less shelter.
    • So when will we find out? Is it going to be a big reveal on some specified day? If not, why can't you tell us now?! (I'm presuming you mean the new boss of Franklins. It would be too much to hope for that the Palmerston had a miraculous return to one of its better past incarnations. Never mind the food, they could bring back the lovely quirky painted column things of over twenty (?) years ago, and remove the hideous "art" that has sadly been installed. I feel really sorry for the staff, because it can't be just my partner and I who rarely go there any more. I suppose the only hope is that it does so badly that it changes hands again and that the new hands have better taste. Sorry, all off topic.)
    • I would hope that is extremely unlikely. If people accidentally vote for someone, that's their own fault, isn't it?
