I have it on good authority (see email below) that the aforementioned is re-opening on its original site, next to the Cafe on Monday 14th July.Yay! After months, being temporarily sited in a dark and rather dingy hall, with little to no outside space, it is good to hear that the original site will be up and running in less than a fortnight.

Fingers crossed that the council stick to the 14th.

"Peckham Rye Playroom

Unfortunately, due to subsidence affecting the safety of the building, the playroom could not be used by its usual client group ( parents/carers and toddlers ), so we looked for an alternative that was still within walking distance. I am aware that the community hall is not ideal, but it was the only venue that we could locate, in the catchment area. I will get the playroom manager to check the hall as soon as possible, and let you know if it remains adequate to use.

There have been a number of factors that have caused a delay in returning to the buiding. At first, we were looking at replacing the existing building with a large Portakabin type building, using funds from the local Cleaner, Greener, Safer programme. This was put on hold, as we had discovered that the council was investigating the possibility of placing a multi-use building in that area of the park, which would include a purpose built playroom. This study is still currently being assessed.

Though the larger project presented a great opportunity for the playroom, it was becoming clear that this would be a longer-term solution, so we decided to look at bringing the old building back into use, at least for the medium-term, while the larger project was developing. This ment demolishing some internal walls and making repairs and upgrading/replacing the electric supply, which had also been condemed.

It was expected that the works would cost approx 18k to complete, money which we had to find.

Resources were found to undertake the external electrical works in April, but in testing the building, additional works were required. These additional electrical works have recently been completed.

The internal walls will be removed within the next two weeks and the making good will be carried out on the week of the 7th July. The facility will reopen to the general public on 14th July and its Mon-Fri opening will be reinstated from then on.

Fuschia, it is advertised as "Fun activities for children five years. and under and their parents", although some people bring their older children during the hols. The 1 0 clock clubs are not really designed for older kids, so I am pretty sure it should be the under 5's.

The bikes, for example, are far too small for bigger kids.

Why is it perceived, Reeves is responsible for doubling the "black hole" to £20b through the public sector pay increases. You can't live beyond your means and when you try you go bankrupt pdq. In 4 yrs time if this Govt survives that long and the country doesn't go bust before then, in 2029 I dread to think the state the country will be in.  At least Sunak and co had inflation back to 2% with unemployment being stable and not rising.
    • He seemed to me to be fully immersed in the Jeremy Corbyn ethos of the Labour Party. I dint think that (and self describing as a Marxist) would have helped much when Labour was changed under Starmer. There was a purge of people as far left as him that he was lucky to survive once in my opinion.   Stuff like this heavy endorsement of Momentum and Corbyn. It doesn't wash with a party that is in actual government.   https://labourlist.org/2020/04/forward-momentum-weve-launched-to-change-it-from-the-bottom-up/
    • I perceive the problem.simply as spending too much without first shoring up the economy.  If the government had reduced borrowing,  and as much as most hate the idea, reduced government deiartment spending (so called austerity) and not bowed to union pressures for pay rises, then encouraged businesses to grow, extra cash would have entered the coffers and at a later stage when the economy was in a stronger position rises in NI or taxes would have a lesser impact, but instead Reeves turned that on its head by increasing ni which has killed growth, increased prices and shimmied the economy.  What's worse is that the perceived 20 billion black hole has increased to 30 billion in a year. Is there a risk that after 5 years it could be as high as 70 billion ???
    • That petition is bananas.   If you want a youth centre there pay the landlord the same rent a Londis would and build it yourself or shut the f**k up to be honest. Wasting our MPs time with this trivial nonsense is appalling. If your kids are still out at 1am on a school night you've got bigger problems than vapes and booze and hot sausage rolls.
