I have it on good authority (see email below) that the aforementioned is re-opening on its original site, next to the Cafe on Monday 14th July.Yay! After months, being temporarily sited in a dark and rather dingy hall, with little to no outside space, it is good to hear that the original site will be up and running in less than a fortnight.

Fingers crossed that the council stick to the 14th.

"Peckham Rye Playroom

Unfortunately, due to subsidence affecting the safety of the building, the playroom could not be used by its usual client group ( parents/carers and toddlers ), so we looked for an alternative that was still within walking distance. I am aware that the community hall is not ideal, but it was the only venue that we could locate, in the catchment area. I will get the playroom manager to check the hall as soon as possible, and let you know if it remains adequate to use.

There have been a number of factors that have caused a delay in returning to the buiding. At first, we were looking at replacing the existing building with a large Portakabin type building, using funds from the local Cleaner, Greener, Safer programme. This was put on hold, as we had discovered that the council was investigating the possibility of placing a multi-use building in that area of the park, which would include a purpose built playroom. This study is still currently being assessed.

Though the larger project presented a great opportunity for the playroom, it was becoming clear that this would be a longer-term solution, so we decided to look at bringing the old building back into use, at least for the medium-term, while the larger project was developing. This ment demolishing some internal walls and making repairs and upgrading/replacing the electric supply, which had also been condemed.

It was expected that the works would cost approx 18k to complete, money which we had to find.

Resources were found to undertake the external electrical works in April, but in testing the building, additional works were required. These additional electrical works have recently been completed.

The internal walls will be removed within the next two weeks and the making good will be carried out on the week of the 7th July. The facility will reopen to the general public on 14th July and its Mon-Fri opening will be reinstated from then on.

Fuschia, it is advertised as "Fun activities for children five years. and under and their parents", although some people bring their older children during the hols. The 1 0 clock clubs are not really designed for older kids, so I am pretty sure it should be the under 5's.

The bikes, for example, are far too small for bigger kids.

    • Hello My children no longer play with lego and I have a couple of medium-sized assorted boxes you'd be welcome to have. I've kept instruction booklets for things, but the lego is all mixed up. Happy to share pictures if you like, Kind regards Katy
    • When we resurfaced our drive, we made sure that on either side of the hard standing there were earth beds with plants and shrubs to absorb rainwater.
    • The market held annually at Christ Church Barry Road, was not held last year. Traders had stated that footfall ha fallen considerably, and was not profitable. Whilst a couple of stalls had goods at a reasonable price (socks) the others were very expensive. Not many people were willing to pay £25-£30 for a mug. If my memory serves me correctly - the craft market initially started off in the Village, but did not attract enough footfall and was not on a public transport route - hence the move to Christ Church. I used to go regularly to NXR market but the prices got so ridiculous on the majority of stalls ( a filled baguette which originally cost  around £4 - went up to £9). having grown up in ED - I remember the original NXR market - with fruit and veg stalls, haberdashery, etc which were there 2/3 times a week. My idea of an indoor market is those seen in provincial towns - Preston, Derby, Chichester (which also has street market)
    • have you tried contacting the park ranger? very disappointed in the councillors - but sadly not at all surprised
