Thank god I didn't write anything else. How was your retro corned beef hash? Is that paste the sludgy looking pink/grey stuff in tiny glass jars?vik - I don't remember sugar sandwiches but that's reminded me of a recipe book (I use the term loosely) I had from the 70s (think it was a kids one), that involved buttering sliced white bread, spooning loads of soft brown sugar on top and grilling till it caramelised! uncleglen
Regularly had stuffed lamb's hearts, liver and bacon, rabbit, rarely- condensed milk sandwiches (over the sink of course), the brown jelly from the beef dripping on toast........ Sue
Oh yes, UncleGlen and GSJ57, all those - except for the rabbit, for some reason.Oh yum, condensed milk sandwiches :)) Toast and dripping - yum yum.But in those days you could toast bread - and crumpets - over the coal fire on a toasting fork.I tried that with smokeless fuel, and the toast tasted of chemicals and was completely inedible :(ETA: I'm on a roll now."Cheesecakes" delivered in a basket to the door by Broomfields - puff pastry with some sort of filling then white icing and coconut strands on top.Proper yoghurt in glass containers (I think) which was really sharp tasting and only came in vanilla or strawberry flavours.Icecream blocks - vanilla, strawberry and pistachio.Icecream cornets where you had to roll paper off the cylinder of icecream before you could eat them.Sawdust in butchers' shops which you could scuff into little piles with your shoes.Change whizzing round above your head in little tubes from some cashier's department in the sky.Balls of wool, sixpence three farthings.Walnut cake in Fullers (?).Lyons corner shops.Home and Colonial.Oh God I'm history :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37227-fucks-sake/page/3/#findComment-686232 Share on other sites

DulwichFox
Apart from Peas in their pods sold loose, all peas are processed. Are they not..? Tinned peas, Frozen Peas. Dried peas...Frozen Peas are considered the best as the process from being picked to being frozen is very short. They are therefore 'Fresher' than loose peas in there pods which loose their flavour very quickly. HonaloochieB
A cartoon crow, approached by another and asked " Where?s my dinner?"First crow's response is"Sorry mate you?re too late! The best peas went to Farrows!"Knew how to make ads 'back in the day'BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM Esso Blue. That was another one.Used to be processed peas and blue paraffin as far as the eye could see.And glad we were to go to bed of a night sated by the former and kept dangerously warm by the latter. steveo
I loved the smell of Esso Blue in the mornings; the condensation on the prefab window, the red rimmed eyes, the 16 year-long chesty cough. But pink didn't stink Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/37227-fucks-sake/page/3/#findComment-686952 Share on other sites
