candj
I was there about 7 years ago as a tourist. The very developed waterfront is lovely with a lot of restaurants, cafes and nice views over the harbour. I went swimming in the Gulf and came out with oil splodges on me which was slightly amusing, but other than that there isn't a lot to do. There are a few new museums of Chinese and Islamic art that are very nice. Probably a great place for families (as the rest of the Gulf is) although I didn't have kids back then so can't remember that aspect. The Qataries are very nice indeed, but you might want to visit before deciding to emigrate. Best of luck! JimmyD
i went about 12 months ago on business, and whilst i didn't get to venture far beyond the hotel and work, it looked like a huge building site from my hotel window.that said - the expats (with families) who were out there said the lifestyle was good, if conservative. they are attracting some big sports events (golf tennis etc) and a few big stars do gigs out there from time to time..so they are beginning to get themselves on the map. other obsevations....drinking is confined to hotels generally.4x4s in the dunes seems to be a popular pasttimeby no means a rounded perspective of the place...but hope it's useful...if you like a beer and nightclubbing - stay away! Ted Max
ALthough Doha is older, more established and historically classier, in recent times its immediate neighbour, Dubai, has attracted a new class of younger, more moneyed incomers, while Doha itself has stagnated a bit.So you can change the scenery, Alan, but not the situation.Seriously, I have a friend teaching out there at the moment and she is loving it. *Bob*
Does this explain why you've been so quiet of late, Alan?Have you been two-timing us over on the Doha Forum? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3770-removed/#findComment-118894 Share on other sites

*Bob*
No, I just plough on with the same old dross, as ever. Sorry to hear you've lost your mojo, Alan. Surely the ever-repeating threads about card cloning, moving to ED and children in pubs are enough to keep anyone interested? *Bob*
It's hard to get a new girl in when you've got the old one breathing down your neck 24/7. It's a drawback. On the up-side, I've just been served a tasty sandwich with a side serving of onion rings.
