The worst storm in 26 years was predicted to hit East Dulwich this morning Monday 28 October - a Met Office Amber warning was issued:

PREPARATION

Such as charge mobile phones, have council number ready 020 7525 2000, ensure shed doors locked closed, etc.


TRAINS

Southern trains reporting near normal commuter service from London Bridge to East Dulwich.

No London Overground trains from Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye as service currently suspended.

First Capital Connect running limited services via Herne Hill and Denmark Hill to/from Blackfriars.

London Underground generally ok on underground sections.

Eurostar - services running but with delays.


Wind speeds were predicted to be 60-80 mph around 6-9am with 70mph recorded at Heathrow.


LONDON TRANSPORT

Tube - running on undergorund sections normally.

Buses - Queues locally but anecdotally reported as settling down to normal service.

River Services - good

Emirates Airline - suspended due to high winds.


ROADS

Junction of Glengall Road with Old Kent Road closed due to collapsed crane taking some scaffolding with it. Avoid that area.


FLOODING

No reported flooding locally.

Apparently decision taken to not clear gulleys as it was felt they'd fill up again due to the winds. fortunately no one flooded.


COUNCIL SERVICES

All Libraries opened on time.

Nunhead Cemetery is closed but all other parks and green spaces open.

All leisure centre open.

Rubbish collections proceeding as normal.

Street cleaners out and about.


FALLEN TREES

So far 40 trees and branches reported down across Southwark - 3 around Peckham Rye Park boundary, 1 on Shawbury Road, 1 on Thompson Road.

Apparently it will take upto a week to clear them all. Priority is being given to those that are unsafe, blocking roads, pavements. I've asked whether the council can supplement the contractors so they can spend more time chain-sawing rather than clearing up.

Where necessary barriers will be placed to ensure people don't crash into them.

Work overnight will be taking place to remove as much as quickly as possible.


FLIGHTS

Gatwick and City Airport running as normal.

Heathrow has instructed all airlines to reduce their schedules in the following manner on Monday:

Between 0600 and 1100 a 20 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied

Between 1100 and 1600 a 10 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied

Between 1600 and 2230 a 5 per cent reduction in the schedule has been applied

British Airways are cancelling European and domestic flights. Other flights, still shown as operating, may suffer from delays.

This seems to me to be a GBO - or "Glimpse of the Bleeding Obvious" and politicking masquerading as help.


If an individual has access to to this interwebby thingy I'm sure they can read the newspapers, listen to the radio and watch TV - it hardly needs a Lib Dem to point it out. But then state nannying is a Lib Dem policy.

The Met Office has been and still is predicting gusting to at least 52mph for the area around 6am. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/london_forecast_weather.html Not nearly as bad as the 70-80mph mentioned, but still capable of damage, and for all we know still liable to change. And possibly accompanied by a lot of water (though judging from the icons they may currently be forecasting less of it, in rate and duration, than previously)

      Greens have some mad polices and I am still trying to work out if it is true that the leader of the party thought he could hypnotize women to have larger breasts 🤷‍♂️ country is in a real state at the min and all party’s have a part to play in that. what the future holds who knows but it is worrying.

      A stellar win for the Greens in Gorton and Denton, no doubt. But by-elections are funny beasts. Labour's strength traditionally has been in its ground game. Legions of canvassers over many years in many seats usually means that they are best placed to 'get out the vote' on election day. I can't quite believe that the Greens have enough data, or people, to wrest control of the council from Labour.

      Was a regular haunt of mine for many years and had a lot of fun times in there and some marvellous food down the years. Though, admittedly I spent most of my time in there doing some serious boozing. In recent times I've been a less frequent visitor to this fine establishment. I seriously hope it doesn't change too much. It's always had a good vibe in there and that's down to Tim and Rod and all of the staff who have worked there over the past 26 years.

      Tom came round today and did a very good job advising on picture and mirror placements, and hanging several pieces. Will definitely ask him back to do a few more once we have them framed.
