I'm thinking of taking a weeks holiday at the end of the month as a surprise for my husband birthday but I have a few a questions

1) when would you book to get the best deal? Would you leave it til very last minute a couple of days before or longer a week, 2 weeks

2) where to choose it's only a week so don't want to spend too long at airports or travelling to hotel?

3) which web sites would you recommend?

4) I'm thinking Portugal, Malta, but not sure what the weather would be like would like it warmer than here

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Portugal, Malta in late November - you MIGHT be lucky but you'd be better choosing the Canaries where the weather is sunny through the year. It's a 4 hour flight, so not too bad.

I've just spent a week in Maspalomas (Gran Canaria) which was really very warm - 27 day, 24 evenings.

Got back from Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, yesterday. What Townley said re temperatures, if you want sun and no clouds, it's there right now.

3.5hr flight with EasyJet.

Stayed at Dunas (link below) in my first ever resort - did what it said on the tin with lovely staff and I now finally believe the 'myth' about Germans getting-up at dawn to claim sunbeds with their towels before going to breakfast.

Almer?a is the sunniest point in Europe.

Should be pleasant at this time of year, very nice right now http://www.google.co.uk/search?aq=f&gcx=w&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=weather+spain#q=weather+almeria+spain&safe=off

I remember playing footie on the beach there one christmas and it was very mild and sunny.

But as townley says, no guarantees in the Med, you'd have to go further to be fairly sure of winter sun.

    • To put this over dramatic and somewhat gleeful post in context, the policy has not "failed at first hurdle." "It is just a temporary decision. The judge granted a pause of at least 14 days so the man, who is not being named for legal reasons and arrived in the UK on a small boat last month, could provide evidence of his claim that he has been a victim of modern day slavery." from BBC website
    • what sort of bike are you looking for - men's , ladies, size. commuter, mountain or racer etc etc. And what is your budget?
    • Is  the  decision by the High Court not to  deport an Eritrean man  to France on Wednesday anything other than a massive boost for Farage and reform. Farage has made a commitment for the UK to exit the ECHR which limits the independence of our justice system The UK Government’s “one in, one out” has failed at the first hurdle - just as the Rwanda scheme did under the Tories. To make it even more embarrassing is that the accommodation for deportees   in Rwanda paid for by the UK is now being used by the USA for its deportees. If we are to have Farage thrust upon us as a result of such judicial decisions, then God help us.
