Can anyone recommend a good shop where I could bring my computer which need to be fixed. I think there might be problem with Windows 7 , I can turn on my PC but Windows doesn't open. I don't know much about computers so I really need someone who could explain what's wrong with it and how much would cost to fix it.

Thank u for any advice!

Call Pawel at UK Computers. He just fixed my laptop connection problems and was talking about Windows 7 for which Microsoft will stop supporting it next April. 020 3086 7882 www.UKComputers.eu

Edited to say, in all my happiness I wrote it wrong above: indeed, as below, it is Windows XP that's doooomed.

Thanks below for the updates!

After April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. If you continue to use Windows XP, your computer might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.

Windows 7 should not be affected..

Hi maela..

As a start... Try This.

If you have the bottom bar showing..

Left Click the 'Start' Button.

In the SearchBox type explorer.exe

In the area above explorer.exe should appear

Right Click explorer.exe

Windows Should open and show your desktop.

After that close down your PC and check that Windows Opens when you switch back on.

I don't understand some solutions offered in all pc fix threads...

In this case there is only 3 options

1 recover crashed windows with recovery disc

2 backup hard drive content and reinstall windows

3 replace faulty drive and reinstall windows ( if its a hard drive fault)

And THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION

Thank you

Maela may of meant Windows Explorer which displays the desktop

It is a common result of virus attack where explorer.exe is substituted for another program in the registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / Software / Microsoft /WindowsNT / CurrentVersion / Winlogon / Shell / explorer.exe

If that KEY is missing or altered Windows will not open correctly.

You was criticising Netquest the other day.

Gino, you really are a buffoon. You have very little idea what you are talking about.

I see you ad was removed. You failed to follow the rules here. Trading address required.

She might have not mean that

Cos if she meant to say windows exlorer she would have said it

Would she

What I understand from it is that computer boots up

Yet windows as it operating system doesn't come on

Cos that's what normal human would hhave said it

Only people who knows some things about inside of the computers or operating systems would have said it as you did

So no disrespect for you

But as she explained the problem she looks like she use computers not learning about them

Have you thought about it

Maybe she have deleted by mistake some files from boot order menu or other windows component and it just need to be loaded back up and that's it

I can suggest you ask her if she meant what she wrote or she thought about more techie stuff as you did

Respect

Will it (ie Windows) start up in Safe Mode, or is that yet another "stupid" suggestion on which gino1 will rudely jump?

If so, could you then do a system restore from safe mode?

gino1, I certainly wouldn't want to take anything to you for repair judging by your attitude on this forum :(

When it was finished, I'd soak the label off, fill it with Morrison's own-brand vermouth and use it for cooking as it lasts longer than keeping wine open. One night there was very little else left to drink, so we got into it - I told people it was a difficult to find artisanal brand I'd brought back from Barcelona and that it should be pronounced 'Vermut'. People loved it. I gave away a couple of bottles as Christmas presents the next year.
