best hair dresser local?

I went to Traci at Lawler Steel after having a bad hair colour experience at another local salon. I had previously used a West End salon for 15 years but once I had kids found the trek to up to town inconvenient. Traci sorted my colour out which I'm really pleased with and suggested an update for my haircut - much needed. I have recommended her to lots of friends who continue to use her, so she must be doing something right. I agree choosing the right hairdresser is a personal thing but in my opinion she's worth the money and cuts down my travelling time.
Unfortunately I didn't have a very good experience at Lawler & Steel when I went there last spring and it took six months to grow out what was a truly terrible haircut. The staff were nice, the colour was ok but I knew as soon as I tried to blowdry my hair myself that the cut was a shambles! I didn't have Traci so maybe that was where I went wrong; I've wanted to find a good salon locally so I didn't have to trek into the west-end and I do keep meaning to try Kuki as they seem to be well regarded on here. I think sometimes when you're considering a new hairdresser it's good to go in for a blowdry first so you can get a feel for a salon and watch what they are doing on other clients before you book in for a cut or colour.
Like another poster, for years I trekked to Putney to have my hair cut/coloured after a colleague recommending someone over there to me. Then I found Andres, who works in Partridges in West Dulwich. I've found him fabulous in terms of color and cut. As my hair has gotten longer, there is little you can do with long long hair, but people do always comment on the good cut he has given, he does give it a great style despite its length. I'm sure he's dying for me to allow him to chop most of it off at this stage :)

Well, "East Dulwich Hairdressing scene" covers an awful lot of hairdressers (and I agree some of them are awful, having in the past tried many of them).

Who did you go to, and what did they do wrong? Surely they ought to put it right themselves if they've f-ed up?

You can't have tried Kuki in Bellenden Road?

I've just had another fantastic cut from Shingo.

The price for a cut and blow dry has just gone up to ?45, but for the result it's an absolute bargain.

I used to go to Charles Worthington in Covent Garden, and the last stylist I had there cut my hair so badly that someone else from there had to cut it free for ages to get it looking half decent again.

Shingo cuts my hair much better than ever I had done anywhere in town, plus it lasts a lot longer.

Kuki (and Shingo in particular) have many many recommendations on this forum. We can't all be wrong, surely :)

Try Stevie Thomas, she will come to your house. She has a thread on here, with quite a few recommendations.

Would love to know of a Soho hairdressers that charges almost half as much as ED hairdressers.

    • Received this response from TFL today (15 October)   Thank you for contacting us on 1 October regarding the ongoing diversion of the P13 bus route between Rye Lane and Sainsbury’s, Dog Kennel Hill, since 29 September. You’re absolutely right that the diversion is due to Thames Water works in the area. While other traffic may appear to be flowing freely along Avondale Rise into Ivanhoe Road, our local Service Delivery Manager has confirmed that buses are unable to safely make the turn from Avondale Rise into Ivanhoe Road in either direction. This is due to the size and turning radius of the vehicles, which differs significantly from that of smaller vehicles. We understand that diversions can be inconvenient and appreciate your patience while this work is ongoing. We’re continuing to monitor the situation closely and will restore the usual route as soon as it is safe and operationally feasible to do so. Thanks again for contacting us. If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.
    • If anyone is looking for a tree surgeon, I recommend Hamish and Cut Above Tree Management. He was very helpful and personable, quick to respond and did an excellent job of removing a wonky tree in my garden with a minimum of hassle. A fantastic service!
    • Another recommendation for Robert here. Lovely guy. Serviced our boiler AND made a small safety amend free of charge. We'll definitely be using again! He's on 07952584171
