Dvn
Why are museums like The Victoria and Albert, The Science Museum and The Natural History free yet The London Transport Museum isn't? titch juicy
Is LTM privately owned but the other's aren't? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/40526-the-london-transport-museum/#findComment-714194 Share on other sites
El Pibe
Exactly. The entrance fee does entitle you to a year's entry though.I'm guessing the same story with St Paul's. Fifteen quid!!!I tend to contribute to Science & natural history whenever I go as worthy institutions. Townleygreen
I think museums of national importance are the free ones. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/40526-the-london-transport-museum/#findComment-714233 Share on other sites

Townleygreen
According to the Museums Association, "In 2001, free entry was reintroduced at national museums in England, Scotland and Wales which had previously charged for admission." http://www.museumsassociation.org/campaigns/free-admission-and-the-lotteryAs I have already said, this applies only to National Museums.Presumably the LONDON Transport Museum doesn't count as a NATIONAL museum - as it is specifically about London.OK now, Dvn? El Pibe
"as it is specifically about London"I suspect National really means state in this sense as The Museum of London is one (which I recently did in three lunchtimes as I work about 200 metres away, and am running out of time to do all the things I've taken for granted).Well worth a visit especially for the prehistoric and roman collections.
