From what I've seen and heard of her she's thoughtful, articulate, good at presenting and investigating ideas, approachable and has been a resident or at least participant in south London life for many years. I don't know how credible she is on economic policy ideas or, indeed, where she stands on the issues I'm interested in but I'd be interested in hearing more from her in politics.

Muff Match not as exciting as it sounds. Think it was a low budget comedy film. Amy played a teacher. Duckie much more exciting.

I agree with bawdy-nan - I think credit to Labour for embracing and attracting different folk into politics. We have enough clones in Westminster.

She posted this on her facebook earlier:

Hi everybody...big news today! I'm excited to announce that i'm standing for The Labour Party Parliamentary selection in Dulwich and West Norwood.

I've been a Labour Party activist for 20 years. I want to bring my skills as a campaigner, entrepreneur and broadcaster to stand up, speak up and get things done. And I want Parliament to start looking more like the people it serves!

Tessa Jowell has announced her retirement and has very big shoes to fill; she's an amazing MP. I'm up to the job, and i'd love your support.

She looks well cool. I like my politicians to actually look like they haven't got a pole stuck up their [insert appropriately], she looks a right larf! Good luck to you Amy.

She sounds interesting, and that she's actually lived a life. People in politics should represent all parts of society.

I'd be keen to hear what she stands for though, locally and nationally.

Better someone a bit kooky than another career politician, a bored law firm partner or shiny grad scheme twerp like Chuka.

(This reminds me of the Monster Raving Loony Party). And we do need boring grey politicians who know what they are doing with our taxes since ex-postmen, ships' bar stewards etc screwed up last time. And Tessa Jowell relaxed the gambling rules and imposed the music restrictions on pubs don't forget- desparate to get more money out of our pockets and creating misery in the process. Labour are just Militant (learnt their lesson there and now keep it quiet) and the extreme Left of Europe in sheep's clothing.

Couldn't agree more.

We are supposed to live in a representative democracy, but the people who govern in our name represent a tiny section of the population. I don?t see anyone in Parliament who represents me, or people like me. There are millions of people with no-one in Parliament representative of who they are.

The result is that millions of Britons fail to engage in the political process and the percentage of the population who vote has become shamefully low. Why would you want to vote if the only candidates on offer are from a world alien to you, with no understanding of what living your life entails? This lack of true representation undermines democracy and allows politicians to ignore the needs of whole swathes of the population who don?t vote, which further disempowers and alienates people.

If people like Amy are allowed to stand and not destroyed in the Media for being different, then maybe this will pave the way for others from different backgrounds to stand and we will move towards a more representative democracy.

I won?t be holding my breath though.

Those in power, do not give up power without a fight and the current lot have many resources at their disposal to prevent the kind of change we need.

Frankly I feel better represented by someone who worked in the Public Sector perhaps as a teacher rather a flipping comedian! , Actor, Millionaire, Barrister, Newspaper Magnate, Toiler Fitting Magnate or Bullingdon Club Bully.

    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
    • Hi all Does anyone know someone who can make a window seat cushion and cover? See image of window seat. Thank you.
    • Don't know why but it seems like there have been impromptu fireworks since early September. At one point I even wondered if there was a shooting range or something like that over Dulwich Hamlet way- the direction where the firework sounds seem to be coming from? Is there some kind of new, fireworks craze going on and where are people getting them, out of season?
