I think you're right about those... but just to be clear, there are some stump things at East Dulwich station, on the ramp to the London Bridge platform!! Just not sure I see the point if they do put them in - they'll doubtless break and stop people getting on their train in the morning. Or maybe they are for Oyster card readers?

I hope they do put in gates on that side - stop me wandering onto the trains on the day my pass expires and/or I leave it at home.


But I doubt they'll stick in gates. I believe that gates have to be manned and that's never gonna happen. More likely Oyster readers for prepay - when it is introduced.

We got gates at Forest Hill recently which are manned, staff who weren't there before. They do go home at 8ish though and just leave them open. The a bit later the ticket hall's shut completely and they just leave the side gate open.

You still can't buy an Oyster Card there though..

Gotta say I think barriers are a good thing - an extra 30 seconds each day at p.rye station would be favourable to the once-a-week 10min queue when the inspectors descend and huge groups of morons try to argue their way past with clever "oyster at home" based ploys.

Sydenham had teething problems in the first couple of weeks, I think to do with the programming of the barriers, and the bottle necking effect.


However, people seem used to them now, and traffic seems to flow quite nicely through them. Basically, people who have big problems with barriers going up tend to be people who are not buying tickets.

I don't have an issue with a barrier going up, although I do hope they think carefully about putting one up that will still allow people in wheelchairs and people with baby buggies to get through - those steps are already a bit tricky even for a buggy and the slope must be a killer for a wheelchair user.


The only time I get caught without a ticket is when I've been dozy and forgotten to renew my pass, so the barrier would actively help me there!

      Hi Sue, they were not local solicitors. Andrea’s was based in Wales and the other firms involved were large nationwide conveyancing companies (rather than conventional high street solicitors). I’m happy to advise clients and buyers privately on what I believe to be their shortcomings but I don’t think doing so in public on the forum would be appropriate, particularly as they are not locally based. My general advice would always be to steer clear of the big conveyancing companies as they are, in my experience, notoriously difficult to contact when the need arises and the case handler is often not a fully qualified solicitor and so issues have to be referred upwards to “technical teams” internally, which was part of the problem in Andrea’s chain.       A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
