Hi I had quite a major sinus operation a few years back, they widened the cavities above and below on both sides. I stayed in hospital overnight (although think this was only because I had the general anaesthetic), it was bit sore afterwards but nothing major, no bruising just a bloody nose for a couple of days - had to sleep upright for a couple of nights. The wadding up the nose was probably the worst - but even that wasn't too bad.

Operations are scary, but honestly you'll be fine and the difference it'll make to you on a daily basis will be huge - I suffered horrible sinus pain for ages before having it done - nothing since!

Good luck and speedy recovery x

I watched my daughter have a general anaesthetic earlier in the year. The anaesthetist and surgeons were so cool and competent, it really reassured me; and the recovery ward and nurses are bloody brilliant. Natural to be scared but everyone does know their job.

Easy for me to say having never had a general but as they say above, and as all my friends and family have experienced, they tend to know what they're doing.

And to put it another way they don't do generals willy nilly as, amongst other thing, they ain't cheap so I'm guessing the benefit will be fantastic. Let us know how you get on.

  • 3 months later...

I had an operation at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat hospital in Kings Cross in 2007, that involved widening of a cavity to improve airflow - and it has made an improvement. I think if it's big hospital that kind of thing is like changing a tyre on a car so it all works like clockwork the whole set-up of anaesthetists, nurses and surgeons.

My only advice would be, confirm with your Consultant that it will be they that performs the surgery - rather than them delegating the delicate work to a junior.

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
