Hi, I nominated myself (foolishly)to try and find a venue for my work christmas party this year.

Have a mixed group young and older that are looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner and then have a little bit of dancing. Looking in the area as well as, Greenwich, Sydenham, Bromley. Workplace is in Sydenham so trying to find somewhere that is convenient for most people.

I know i'm not going to be able to please everyone and not every one has a great deal to spend that time of year so a lot of things more central are out the running but anyone got any suggestions?

Hello Sooty

I run Suzanne James Ltd, an East Dulwich based catering company www.suzannejames.co.uk As well as running the Horniman Conservatory I also work in many local venues and would be happy to suggest some venues which may suit your needs.

Why not go to the Ivy House 40 Stuart Rd SE153BE. The function room is free and charming...you could contact bon3yard who is a regular contributor to this forum and provides and delivers home cooked food see if he and Dave the Landlord could come to an agreement about delivering it there. The room is an old 1930's dance hall wooden panelled with mirrors and a beautiful Baroque type stage for anyone who fancies showing off. The lighting is all set up too for all types of moods. Go have a look at it one night, Tuesdays they have Salza, Wednesdays is a casual Mix of Musical Minds and every other thursday is the Language Lounge and Pull the Other One Comedyarts Club.

You could try Belair House (is that the name of it now?) on College Road for Christmas party venue. We've been to a wedding reception there and it was a nice venue.

Sean, why don't you book St. Thomas Moore Hall - great Guinness and get an Irish band in.... we'll all be there!

We had a kids birthday party at St. Thomas More Hall a while ago - ?75 to hire the hall and they didn't charge for bar staff as it was Jimmy Burns who runs the place behind the bar (but we did give him a drink or two). It's a bit of 70 retro-shock for decor, but great place otherwise and great for transport links, if that's an issue.

Hi Sooty,

you should check out as suggseted by CANDJ Beauberry House (formely Bel Air), This year they have themed events thoughout december called Winter Wonderland, they offer dinner and entertainement in the form of magician, flame jugglers, DJ (for the dancing bit) and even a casino!!! their number is: 020 8299 9788

    • Hello East Dulwich families 👋 I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I’m a professional family & wedding photographer with 14+ years of experience, and I split my time between the US and London throughout the year. I’ll be based in London for the coming weeks and would love to photograph more local families here in East Dulwich. My approach is very relaxed and natural — no stiff posing, no pressure — just real connection, movement, and the beautiful everyday moments that tell your family’s story. I work especially well with kids and parents who feel “awkward” in front of the camera (which honestly is most of us!). Sessions can take place at home, in the park, on your favourite street, or anywhere that feels meaningful to you. The goal is to create images that feel like your life — not a photoshoot. If anyone has been thinking about documenting this season with their children, I’d love to connect, answer questions, or simply share examples of my work. No pressure at all — just happy to be here and meet some neighbours. You can see my work here: https://bluesparkphotography.com/family/ (use the contact page on the site to send me a message if you're interested!).
    • I don't! But I've also taken to calling myself David, as it seems to shorten the odds of achieving something in life. It's not King Dave, Dave Lloyd George, Dave Hockney, Dave Bowie or Dave Hasselhoff is it? And I'm not sure Michelangelo would have had such success if he'd called his sculpture 'Dave'.
    • I think there is still a shoes/clothes recycling bank outside of North Dulwich station.
