the-e-dealer
I think it should be amended to allow the hunting of any red coated animals on a horse. PokerTime
I've known a few people who grew up in a culture of fox hunting and they really do not understand what the fuss is about. Forget any notion of pest control (their favourite defense), all of these people see fox hunting as a jolly good day out and nothing more. It's baffling. Why do they cling on to it? Because the landed gentry have always failed to see why anyone should be able to tell them what to do. What's clear from the proposed ammendment is that they think chasing a fox with ten hounds as opposed to two, as long as you chase it onto a gun is acceptable (like they whey will be able to control a pack of hounds if it gets to the fox before the fox reaches the gun anyway). It makes me so angry that the government is even entertaining an ammendment.Edited to add that I like most people. had thought hunting a fox with ANY hounds was outlawed. I am really suprised to see that it is allowed with two even. PokerTime
YW Fox. These people can't be allowed to get away with it. 280 convictions under the hunting act since it was introduced in 2004 - tells you everything you need to know about what little regard these people have for the law anyway. Truly shameful. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42399-amending-the-hunting-act/#findComment-731777 Share on other sites
the-e-dealer
My grandparents were 'country dwellers' they understood what Hunting or 'Country Sports' was all about. My Uncle John used to go for a walk at 4 in the morning to 'shoot rats', and Mysteriously all the Game Birds had got out of is Lordships Pens in the morning when the shoot was due to happen. steveo
About a billion animals a year are slaughtered for food in the UK. Add to that deer and badger culls, fishing and sport shootingDogs tearing foxes apart is an unappealing and gruesome thing but I've never understood the cacophony of outrage that a few dead/mutilated foxes causes and the almost complete silence/acquiescence that accompanies wholesale animal killing particularly kosher/halalI quite like the screaming, mangy, malodorous foxes that live in my garden but it's about scale Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42399-amending-the-hunting-act/#findComment-731783 Share on other sites

Lowlander
I kinda agree with you steveo (kosher/halal slaughter excepted if it's done properly). There are millions of battery chickens in appalling conditions. Cattle and pigs kept in pens. Dirty fish farming practices and the spread of disease to native stocks. Intensive dairy farms.Personally I find it hard to hear an anti-fox hunting view from people who buy battery farmed eggs/chicken and pay ?1 for four pints of milk. PokerTime
lol Steveo...you just might.I think you'll find that those most opposed, are also fighting for better treatment of animals accross the whole spectrum. People are not silent regarding Halal or Kosher either but what it is true to say is that most people have no idea what goes on in slaughterhouses and just in the practise of meat production across the board. Is Halal any more brutal that stunning a pig and boiling it whilst still alive? But most of us are invested in consuming meat, so a collective outrage doesn't happen. Hunting is a simple way of illustrating cruelty. Food production and slaughter houses are not (in spite of the efforts of animal welfare groups to get images out there). And I would also say that the arrogance of the countryside alliance in defending it's interests on this one have never done it any favours. Have a look at this for an illustration of how little these people view animal cruelty and the law.http://huntingact.org/?q=node/18When I read......'A fox had taken refuge in a stack of hay bales and attempts were made to flush out the fox using terriers. Eventually after about 25 minutes the fox was flushed out into the open but was soon brought down and torn apart by the waiting pack of hounds. Holt used his hunting horn to blow the traditional call for a kill and then picked up the dead fox so the hounds could attack and 'rag' the carcass.'.....there really is no comparison to food production there. It's just entrenched cultural animal cruelty. They are no better than the low lives that fight dogs at the other end of the class spectrum.Ultimately we don't chase animals to within an inch of their life before slaughtering them for food any more than we should be doing that for sport in the countryside. There are humane ways to control wildlife. Hunting with dogs and horses isn't one of them Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42399-amending-the-hunting-act/#findComment-731791 Share on other sites

Jeremy
I'm (sort of) of with steveo. I don't understand why people want to hunt foxes, and to tear them apart with dogs just seems especially barbaric. But I can't see myself getting out there with my placard... animals die every day (both at the hands of humans and other animals) and this seems like a tiny drop in the ocean. Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> *cough*> > CLASS WAR.........> > Toff replacing the fox, that's what it comes down> to for MOST who bang on about this....not Foxy> though, he genuienely loves the the mangy thingsThink there is a lot of truth in this to be honest. For me personally I just think anything where an animal is chased down and torn to shreds shouldn't be allowed. Yes there are other bad things happening to animals, but that doesn't mean we should ignore it. That's like saying we shouldn't bother looking for better treatment for HIV because Cancer is also out there.Hunting when it's to put food on the table if fine, but that hasn't been necessary in this country for a long time. Hunting for the sport / a jolly up is not on in my book. The opposition to this generally falls into two camps.1) Those that are more worried about foxes being chased around the countryside and ripped to shreds, like foxy2) Those that are more concerned that it is being done by 'Toffs', like unlurked seems to.More power to the first group. I have zero time for the second type. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42399-amending-the-hunting-act/#findComment-731827 Share on other sites
