Helpful late night reply to the original post....

There was previously an unsuccessful planning application to turn it into a nursery on the ground floor. That was turned down at the time. Maybe there has been an update to that. Maybe post on James Barber's thread.

From what I can make out from quickly perusing the planning app site, they want the ground floor to be retail (already approved), a shed loads of 'studio flats' above and then to construct a further level with a couple more 2 and 1 bed flats.

It's a lovely looking building (though run down) and grade II listed. I really hope that the council take this into account before approving too many changes to the front.

The planning application summary does say "Listed building: Grade II".

OTOH, it doesn't show up as a listed building on the interactive map at http://maps.southwark.gov.uk/connect/southwark.jsp (category is 18th from end of side menu) , or in http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/search?pc=SE22.

Somewhere there should be an authoritative list.

Cold and unloved but yes, good lines. Like something from an abandoned 1930s Aerodrome.

This is how the discussion was going a year ago when the nursery lost out to some kind of retail unit - or so it seemed then...

Hard to see what retail would do well on that site, no real footfall and it is isolated from the rest of the shops on LL. Another "Express" style supermarket I suppose as there is space for parking out front...but even the much fabled M&S would want a more high st site you would have thought?

Shame re: the nursery. Can see that being perfect location for that and let's face it, plenty of demand in the area.

    • Interesting, because I've been going throughout the past few years with different sets of kids and the parents i'm with have always said it's cold. Also spoke to a couple in passing the past weekend and one even said that's why she never brings her 18 month old because it's too cold. Thanks for your feedback. Maybe it's the room temperature that's throwing me off. But the showers are way definitely way warmer than the pool itself.
