StraferJack
Green chicken handi is a favourite of mine. The red chicken handi tho... JamesG
My experience is that whoever is the best only stays the best for about 6-12 months! When I first moved to the area Dulwich Tandoori was great, it then went pony.Even Pistachio was good when it opened.Tandoori Nights is good but not that good. Anywhere slightly gourmet on Lordship Lane is bound to stand out. Most ED curry houses have had their moments but none have stayed the distance.Currently I'd say Jaflong. BBC is way too expensive. The best local curry house I?ve experienced (that stayed consistent) was Indian Ocean on Holloway Road.Lordship Lane curry mediocrity doesn?t seem to have seriously hindered their success. brummie
On the Curry Debate, I will lay out my credentials, I am Brummie- the home of the Balti, I am of Bangladeshi background and at the age of 45yrs old I have eaten curry for about 43years:) Tandoori Nights is ok, but the SWADESH kicks butt! Trust me I know a gem when I find one:)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4336-best-curry-in-east-dulwich/page/10/#findComment-444540 Share on other sites
Jeremy
No matter what credentials you may have, it still comes down to personal taste, and the experience you have on the night. I was underwhelmed when I went to Swadesh, and found the food rather bland. Dodo1
Yes Swadesh is very good- they even made me a Handi Laseez that the Coriander used to do and isn't on their menu. Medley
Somewhat off-topic, I know, but, really, forget Brick Lane. Just hopeless. What you need instead, if you're round there (and thanks to the Overground from FH/HOP to Shadwell it's a lot easier than it was from our neck of the woods) you need the Lahore Kebab House. Was there on Saturday and so reminded again of its sumptuousness. Absolutely not the place for a romantic dinner, but once you've had those grilled lamb chops you don't look back. Can get a bus there from Lordship Lane. But the music on its website puts me off :)) Would I be subjected to that all through the meal???
