If I were a resident, I'd be seriously wondering if it were worth a punt on the belief that the yellow lines are unauthorised and hence legally ineffectual. But please don't blame me if that's not the case.

Someone might also want to check whether there's any legal requirement for accompanying signs. The information, one way or the other, is out there and probably quite easily findable.

Why mess around with trying to find someone. Send it directly to Eleanor Kelly, Chief Exe and Peter John, Leader of the Council.cc Cllr Barber and Cllr Hamvas asking for an explantion and the name of the person in Charge.

I've emailed and spoken to council officials.

These double yellow lines are not permanent and have not gone throughthe permanent traffic management team.

They expect to confirm later this afternoon that the lines are to support utility works. Even so clearly lots of lessons to be learnt about how such temporary lining is planned and communicated to people.

Dear all, I have now received a response. Contrary to what is said by Cllr Barber above these lines were NOT SUBMITTED TO NOR APPROVED by Peckham Rye Councillors at Community Council.

The installation of yellow lines along Hindmans Rd is temporary. The lines have been installed to enable Thames Water to install an anti flood device to prevent internal sewer flooding to Hindmans Road properties.They are necessary to maintain traffic flow during the works.

Works are due to start on Monday 28th April and are expected to be completed by 19th May. Once occupation of site is in place the lines either side of site can be removed and remaining linage opposite site will be removed on completion of the works.

I have been assured parking restrictions will not be enforced until Monday 28th April.

Southwark had instructed Thames Water to letter drop to all residents on Hindmans Road a month ago. Thames Water evidently failed to carry out their duty in this case.

I so sorry that my Ward Residents have had such stress and inconvenience and that the reasons behind the lines has not been communicated to you prior to their installation (nor to Cllrs either!). The lines should be removed shortly after the works have been completed.

I have attached a copy of the traffic order advertising the restriction.I would like to also inform you parking restrictions will not be enforced until Monday 28th April.

So the double yellow lines only apply 28 April to 16 May.

When you were told above Renata did you ask if people could park there outside these dates and ask for clear signage to this effect?

Also will Thames Water now do a letter drop and if so when?

I was informed that residents can park there until the 28th (Monday), but there is no definite date of when they can park there once more as of course the works could either be completed earlier or over run! I have asked for an update when the date of completion is known and when residents can park in front of their homes once more in case there is any lag between completion and line removal. I have also requested signs to state from the 28th April.

Hi I live on Hindmans Rd and have just spoken to some workers who have pulled up - they seem to think it's to do with the development planned and that there could be yellow lines for up to a year. We have had no maildrop, no email, no signs posted about this so I'm not sure what to believe....

Hello again everyone,

a further update, legally as the lines are there, signs can't be put up too. One good bit of news is than once the site is set up (probably by Tuesday) it is highly likely that some of the lines will be removed, particularly on the even side of the road.

Hi Intexas, they are temporary lines, easily removed, the problem with cones etc, they are portable!

I'm just wondering why yellow lines have to be used at all? Parking suspension notices seem to work perfectly well elsewhere.

Hi Pokertime, parking suspension notices tend to be for tree works etc, that are very short term. These works will last three weeks and cars can't be parked where the work are going on.
