There are Mikecg far too many in this society, and the law is making it so you can no longer speak the truth lest you be sued.

It smacks of 50s Russia when it heaved with secret police and no one dared to speak openly with their neighbours.

There should be a word for it..........gagging, no it's not precise enough we need a new word....

With thanks to the Daily Mash...

OED researcher Nathan Muir said: "The dictionary can accept neologisms if there are frequent enough references to its definition in common culture.

"Following a thorough appraisal we are now satisfied that 'ronaldo' has become sufficiently analogous with a lying, pig-eyed sack of donkey turds."

Other new definitions in the next edition include:

Clarkson: (adj) Where the truth of an opinion is inversely proportional to its popularity amongst the mentally ill. The assertion that cyclists are worse than Hitler is profoundly clarkson.

Bale: (n) A tantrum completely out of proportion to the perceived slight. On hearing the cafe had run out of cinnamon, Nikki threw a bale until someone smacked her with a teapot.

For example: "Half a dozen new posters did a Bale on the ED shooting thread whilst AFN, typically, did a Clarkson."

  • 1 month later...

Either MM or MP wrote about "Abrogating" your responsibilities.

One or two other recent words describing internet terms that I was not familiar with.

I invented one the other day which no-one could be assed to pick up on when I described a "Plexegon" of Primroses.

    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
