IMHO Lucy Mangan's TV reviews are very funny. In them she is very witty (indeed a worthy successor to Nancy Banks-Smith) and not at all "up herself" - unlike many Grauniad journalists such as Sam Woolaston whose columns are full of "I think", "I did", "I", "I" etc rather than actual reviews of the programmes or subjects that they are supposed to be writing about.

Woolaston is unreadable

The fluffy columnist thinsg found in most papers don't bother me much either way - a bit of whimsy can be a nice interlude. I think Mangan veered way into beigh territory for a few years but seems to be finding form again

I like Dowling. Like his wife more tho

    • Absolutely gutted to hear that Dell Autos in Hansler Road is closing tomorrow. They have MOTed my ancient 1998 Micra for years, and have always been brilliant. Wishing them all the best of luck in their retirement. Wishing all their customers (including me) luck in finding another garage as honest, helpful, efficient and friendly as they were.

    • Crikey. I need a lie down in a darkened room after reading that. And I've only just got up 🤣 Well said, though (apart from the annoying use of "woke").
