"I know that the majority in Britain are still opposed, but there is a period of consideration under way and the people who matter in Britain are currently thinking about it", he said.

Jose Barroso on the Euro and UK entry...er, the people 'that matter', Mr Barroso are the electorate...this sentence in essence sums up why many of us (not the two headed, UKIP, liitle englanders of which the 'liberal' media smear/label anyone who questions anything about the EU )remain deeply suspicious of european government...it's all about the 'elite' knowing what's best for us plebs eh.....I remain in the unconvinced pot

Substitute European for pretty much anything and it still rings true.

Westminster, Strasbourg, same **** different ****.

Having said that the pound is in freefall and the Euro may soon be the world's dominant currency.

Have you thought about changing your name to ????? ;-P

Touch? :))

On another matter can anyone check to see if there's any credibility to these figures?

"Incredibly, financial bailouts being approved in Washington now add up to $8.5 trillion, a figure beyond comprehension. ABC News commented: "In comparison, the total U.S. cost of World War II, adjusted for inflation, was $3.6 trillion. The bailout will cost more than the total combined costs in today's dollars of the Marshall Plan, the Louisiana Purchase, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the entire historical budget of NASA, including the moon landing."

Well this comes from a different perspective, and has world war 2 at $5 trillion with Iraq at $3 trillion.

Bear in mind both this and the bailout have been almost entirely funded by borrowing, the vast majority of which has been bought up by the Chinese, I wouldn't be throwing in my lot with that currency. Mind you, the pounds not looking any healthier if Gordon gets to solve all our borrowing woes by...err..borrowing lots more.

that won,t be a patch on the irish border towns, espicially the shopping mecca that is newry. its always had more than its fair share of shoppers from the south, but with the weak pound and the decrease in uk vat and the increase in free state vat, its going ballistic. as the old saying goes, newry is booming, only not literally this time.

    • It took the Tories 14 years to dig that 20bn blackhole. It's taken Labour 14 months to double it.  You cant get rid of Reeves though because the next person will actually be totally incompetent. There are no MPs in Labour capable of performing better than the current shower.
    • Thanks P. That sounds like a bargain compared to other horror stories I've heard!
    • DD, "Rejoice rejoice. It's a pity he and his fellow clowns were completely annihilated at the ballot box. I mean they were doing so well after all 🙃🙃" At least the economy and unemployment weren't in the mess they are now. What is it, give the public sector a whopping pay increase with no strings attached, double the black hole and then blame it on the last Govt. Give me strength. Rachel from accounts shouldn't be anywhere near the economy. The final straw was increasing employer NI contributions and look how that's worked out. Month on month both inflation and unemployment have risen. Won't be long before inflation and u/e are exceeding 5%, but guess what, They'll blame Sunak and go.  Lets have a snap election right NOW, then see how poorly Starmer, Reeves and Rainer do. They're already plotting to get rid of Starmer, and if you think its bad now, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh and did I mention Starmer wanting to stop Freedom of Speech............................................Normal people can see right through what him and co are doing, great at spending other peoples money, him and co don't have = bankruptcy. We'll just repeat the economic collapse that happened in Greece and wasn't it in Italy as well?
    • One of the best of Shakespeare 's plays.  I did Othello for A level. Also seen a number of stage and film versions. Is there any specific aspects of the play that is difficult for your daughter to understand?
