Holiday in the Sun..Oman, Dubai or Qatar

Hi everyone

I am desperate to get away for 4/5 days in the sun in early January. Don't want to spend a fortune and their seem to be a few deals on to ther Middle East. Anyone who has been to Dubai, Oman (Muscat) or Qatar could you please let me know how you got on and any recommendations of places or hotels. I don't need watersports etc or child-friendly place just somewhere peaceful to chill out with perhaps an odd excursion in to desert and visit to some of the must see sights.

Dubai's not that quiet..you can do the Desert thing tho...but it's quite a hectic place. Don't know the others.

long way to go for 4/5 days. For that length of time you'd be better going to the Canaries or Morocco IMO.

I've been to Dubai but it was about 12 years ago and I think it is quite different now so I can't really comment.

If it's the sun you want then you're better off with the Gulf states you mentioned - North Africa isn't that great in Early Jan.

Oman is better. Dubai is expensive and you'll get starred at on the beach a lot and Qatar is dull.

Spent 6 nights at the Al Qasr in Dubai a few years back. Overlooks the 6/7 star Burg and you have the waterpark next door. No building work around the hotel but lots going on everywhere else. 10 min cab ride to indoor ski thing. would recomend the resort so many bars and restuarants that we did not really leave the resort. Would go back if I had money.

If you're thinking of going to the Emirates then Abu Dhabi is much more relaxed than Dubai...I haven't been to Oman but folks I met in AD reckoned it was pretty good??
