Half Moon pub to remain closed

Recommended Posts

Sad news that the Half Moon will remain closed for the foreseeable future while Dulwich Estate seek planning permission to convert the upper floors into flats.

I wrote a post about it (and other Herne Hill stuff) here: http://deserter.co.uk/2014/07/is-herne-hill-finished/

I know that alot of pubs have closed in recent years but this article is making alot of negative assumptions.

It's an old building and probably does need a lot of work. As for complaints, anyone who rents those flats will do so in the knowledge the ground floor is a commercial space.

One of my favourite pubs did this in Stockwell (the Albert, if you remember that). Turned the upstairs pool room into flats, spent a bare minimum on the downstairs. Within a couple of years, they had closed the downstairs as well.

The Half Moon should be capable of being a successful landmark pub in the same way as is EDT or the Crown & Greyhound.

    • Why would mice move? It’s not so much they move as multiply and spread    copy and paste rather than cut and paste  mice can and should be dealt with.  But not easily or with guarantees  i would say most people in se22 reading this have mice. Whether they know it or not

    • If a food outlet has a mouse problem then it's likely to stay there until the outlet runs out of food, unless it's adjacent to other food outlets. Why would the mice move? And mice can be dealt with. If you are prepared to pay for it. Which, with some proprieters, is a very big if. I have no evidence that the problem has reoccured in its new inception, although obviously good owners keep the focus on good hygiene. You win the battle but the war continues.
