You made the right choice - ED has all the gentle elegance of Tooting combined with the edginess of Hampstead.

Best of both :)

Good answer!

You'll do well on this forum, friend.

Welcome.

Welcome to ED! IMO one of the nice things about ED is that you have lots of diverse neighbourhoods on your doorstep, each with its own gems in terms of things to see/eat/drink.

Dulwich Village for a genteel environment, world class gallery, nice old pub

Peckham for bars, good places to eat, cheap cinema, nightlife, and the best patisserie for miles around

Camberwell for several excellent restaurants, plus a pub with a crazy cider selection

Plus good places to eat and drink in Herne Hill, Forest Hill... hell, even Nunhead.

Not to mention Lordship Lane of course.

Hi there! My boyfriend and I have also just moved to the area from Scotland! Going really well so far, people are lovely and East Dulwich is just a beautiful place with a real sense of community. We are still finding our feet but a great pub we have discovered is the Lions Head, great food, lovely beers and really nice people. Good luck with the move and anything we can help with, just ask!

    • What is a "culture warrior"? What "facts" are you referring to, and why the inverted commas? Yes, the "garden" is big (I can use inverted commas too!) Yes, it has seats.  Are you a fan of AstroTurf and artificial plants? How would you define a "garden"?
    • "I'm not surprised the culture warriors have showed up with their usual "facts"." what does this even mean?
    • It was such a lovely pub.  I drank and occasionally ate there for many years.  It had a locals feeling about it.  It had the most grumpy couple who managed it, and an outrageous gothed up person behind the bar.  Then it went through several makeovers and it was never the same again. Bums on seats.  The plastic grass, little cabins, relatively expensive alcohol, ubiquitous menu, all brings the punters in.  Pub business has changed.   The brewery who ran their pubs so well has long since gone.  They don't need my business and my sense of nostalgia to survive.
    • I'm surprised there's such hate for the Wood House. I don't particularly like the interior decor but it's good a big garden with a bunch of covered and uncovered seating. I'm not surprised the culture warriors have showed up with their usual "facts".
