Salsaboy
If you go into the old town in Nice there are some fantastic restaurants where the market takes place. Or try Mougin which is a beautiful little walled village a little bit inland. Raymond Blancs favourite restaurant is there. red devil
I would recommend the Place d'etang area of Cannes. It's a square that by day is used by the local boulistes, which then at night becomes a spill out area for the surrounding restaurants. It's situated at the head of The Palm Beach peninsula at the eastern end of the La Croisette, away from the tourists/crowds. There are also a couple of nice public beaches on either side of the peninsula, mainly used by the locals...http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FRHezPb1bg0/UHQbtf7TqJI/AAAAAAAAD6k/n97VwV4xJZA/s400/PDE_021.jpg Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/47791-cote-dazur/#findComment-772579 Share on other sites
red devil
What Salsaboy said about Nice. The Cours Selaya flower market becomes a very lively, buzzy restaurant area at night... MrBen
Nice is right up there with Barcelona as the most likely first trip away you ever did with a new girlfriend if you are between 30 and 40 odds. Dawn of Easyjet. Happy memories. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/47791-cote-dazur/#findComment-772669 Share on other sites
Mick Mac
Hire a car, drive to Monte Carlo for the day and you will find yourself gliding across the grand prix circuit and the famous tunnel, if you want to. MrBen
*Takes bow*Has anyone been to the less flashy part of the French Med towards Spain? The Cote Vermeille? Salsaboy
I tend to go to the Cote D'Azur but go inland, off the beaten track. Some of the little villages are stunning and over the years I've found some great restaurants. Be brave, get in the car and just drive! Robert Poste's Child
Second vote for going inland a little, or take the slow coastal train round to Toulon for lunch and take in the views. I do love a slow train when I'm not working. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/47791-cote-dazur/#findComment-772747 Share on other sites

Salsaboy
Come to think of it. Take the coast road towards Nice. A really lovely, lazy drive with some stunning views over the Med. Robert Poste's Child
Also very lovely. Ages since I've done it but good memories of Eze and Cap Ferrat in particular. DaveR
"Has anyone been to the less flashy part of the French Med towards Spain? The Cote Vermeille?"Yes - I've been to Collioure a couple of times. It's a lovely town but unsurprisingly it gets very busy during the summer. Alan Medic
Don't be fooled by the 'local boulistes' as RD mentioned above. A few of us were playing there some years ago while my SIL took a bus tour of Cannes. As they passed by that area that's exactly what the tour guide described a bunch of pale skinned paddies as! red devil
Willie the guard dog must've been sleeping on the job that day, otherwise he would've had your knackers for petit d?jeuner... Alan Medic
My brother lives in another place mentioned in this thread, Mougin. His dog sleeps most of the time apart from when he decides to chase high flying airplanes away. I reckon that's probably Willie's forte too. red devil
Willie is actually a softie, he belongs to the guy in the 'brick hut' who's also built like a 'brick hut' Willie's a bit of a wanderer, often going off for a walk by himself, even uses the zebra crossings, not that they mean anything in France...
