Having been away in NZ for a few years where the concept of a Sunday lunchtime drink (as opposed to brunch/lunch) doesn't really exist, set off around Dulwich/borders looking for said pint. Since we've been away the smoking ban and rise of the gastro pub have certainly seen more families out and about. I have read the many (very interesting threads on pubs) so decided to take a drive. We wanted to check out the Gowlett and Hoopers (both highly recommended from many threads). It was about 1.30 and the Sunday before most return to work so I thought some pubs would be quiet-both were very empty so we didn't stop (but will come back perhap)s in an evening). LLane was very busy traffic wise so it was a flip up between the Dog and The Dulwich Woodhouse. Chose the latter-every table full of families/children dining so left pronto (no room)-carried on to the BridgeHouse(Penge)-again the same thing-lots of toddlers/babies etc. We did squeeze into a corner for one drink between the high chairs.

While not expecting a small country style pub (and knowing food and families are where a gastro pub makes its money) where you step over a couple of labs, have a real ale in a buzzy atmosphere and mingle with like minded locals, any good recommendations for our next Sunday venture in Dulwich?

    • Another recommendation for Adam on the Dartmouth Road. Have been going there for years. No faff, very reasonal price and nice atmosphere 👍
    • Thanks so much I’ll try that too… might still try getting hold of an air purifier as well if at all possible - want to try cover all bases!
    • The 185 is often the same. But that's why buses sometimes (and annoyingly) stop to "regulate the service". To be fair, it's often due to traffic conditions. If there is not much traffic, the one behind catches up with the one in front.
    • I imagine this is because of the average  additional time involved, due to the styles. You could have asked the reason? I will ask, next time I'm in there.  Many salons have this differential pricing.
