Make sure that the process is being handled properly by your employer and that you know your rights - it will put you in a better position if anything is negotiable. If you're a trade union member, get advice from the union asap. If not, ACAS offers excellent free information/advice and an employee helpline.

Thanks all. I've only been there 7 months. I got a car (gutted to give it up). I've also had two share awards which none have vested.....missing out on nearly 600 shares which would have vested over 5 years. Got healthcare an dental also.

I've been offered four weeks severance on top of four weeks notice which I am aware is more than statutory....going through treatment on a back issue so am just keen to ensure my treatment will be honoured. My consultant may operate in the next few weeks. Also keen not to lose ALL my shares

Your health cover will last until the end of your notice period, so if you've just started consultation you should be ok for another three months at least. You should be able to use the consultation period to ask these kind of questions (if there is no union, has an employee rep been appointed, or if not you can ask yourself). From memory, consultation is 'about' 30 days and can end sooner if all questions are answered or later if there are more questions. Depending on the scale of change the company is making, there may also be a couple of weeks after consultation of group/individual meetings, mapping, looking for alternatives suggested by those who are at risk etc.

    • I’m broadly in agreement with you, Dogkennelhillbilly. But why the meme? It’s a very unfair representation of Sean Dyche, a man who to my knowledge has never engaged in any culture war bollocks. From his Wikipedia entry: Dyche features in an internet meme criticising modern trends in football, in which the phrase "utter woke nonsense" is attributed to him; he said "I wish I'd copyrighted it. Considering I didn’t actually say it, it does follow me around".
    • Whisky Macs, like Harvey's Bristol Cream and Cinzano Bianco & lemonade, are a taste of Christmas past sadly lost to many. A little Whisky Mac and icing sugar whisked through whipping cream makes a festive accompaniment to stollen or Christmas pudding.
    • Legal matters are notoriously slow.  There is no rule that communication has to be via email, fax or letter. If the issue is that you want to claim damages to the property because of poor practice, you would have to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman, but surely the one to suffer the most is the “gold digger” beneficiary?    If that is not the wrong that needs righting, what is?
