Xoco.

Another Indian restaurant?? From the name, I rashly assumed it would be Mexican .... but it has an Indian Grill. Can you have a Mexican restaurant with an Indian grill??

"Grand opening" today ......

ETA: Oh, they've posted the menu further up the other thread. It's Indian with a few additions I think.

Yep, xoco menu looks v odd. Have commented a few times that the local curry house proprietors should try something different, but this really looks most unusual. I would have thought that if they were going for a casual modern slant, a good concept to take influence from would be something like Dishoom.

Powder Cosmetics at 369 Lordship Lane is now open. It looks very nice inside but I wouldn't really know what the selection or prices are like...

Also, I see that the sunbed shop at 355 Lordship Lane (which I never ever saw open) has been sold. Hopeful that means a real business will move in soon and make that shopping strip a bit more lively.

On the subject of curries and Dishoom, Chai Naasto in Beckenham were looking at East Dulwich and had looked on both the Lane and also the Grove Tavern site but all were too expensive (Seperately I hear the Dulwich Estate don't want anyone to use the Grove for retail as have it earmarked for flats).

Such a shame Chai couldn't find somewhere as it would be great to have such a fantastic Indian place on the lane and would force the plethora of mediocre curry places to buck up their acts!

So did The Crystal Palace Tavern (now The Great Exhibition). It didn't have a kitchen. You could get food delivered there.

I didn't know that.. The Hob had a list of Menus so you could get food delivered.

They provided a plate and cutlery. Not sure if they charged.

Hopefully not too long

I suspect it'll work quite well for groups of people, as they have a wide range of things on offer.

But we're so well catered for for most of the types of food on the menu in this area- if I wanted a burger i'd go to one of the specialist places (meat Liquor or Honest), if I wanted Indian, well I don't need to spell it out.

Yep, but the number of places doing really good dim sum in London... can probably count on one hand.

If 'OK' dim sum will suffice, then Hong Kong City isn't that far away.

    • This is simply untrue. The area is not 2/3 storeys maximum. Hambledon Court is on the other side of tracks from the Jewson site on Burrow Rd, is 8 storeys, and is barely known (let alone bothersome) to most people in East Dulwich. Felbridge House, Petworth House etc on the opposite side of the station from the new development are all 5 storeys tall. East Dulwich Charter (which neighbours the new development) is itself 4-5 storeys (depending on which block you're talking about). What's more, Hambledon Court was finished in about 1978 iirc and no-one has built anything similar around here since then - so the "slippery slope" "genie in the bottle" argument doesn't work either. You can't simultaneously argue that Southwark is too slow in approving new construction but also suggest this will lead to a flood of new high-rise housing! At current rates of approval, we can expect our next 8 storey building to arrive in...2072!
    • I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices.
    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
